Kentaro est de retour ! Le DJ japonais multi-récompensé aux championnats du monde DMC n'a plus rien à prouver dans le monde du turntable : une technique irréprochable, un feeling qui permet d'accrocher aussi les fétichistes des scratchs que les novices. Il lui restait donc à tenter l'aventure de la production pour continuer son parcours initiatique musical.
Kentaro est un vrai DJ influencé par tous les styles musicaux (hip-hop bien sûr mais aussi toute musique jamaicaine ou encore la house). Sa première mixtape "My Favorite Songs" illuste sa vision pionnière du mélange des mentalités et des styles ; sa session à l'émission Solid Steel (déjà chroniquée sur le blog : ici) sortie chez Ninja Tune est un tournant pour lui. Il se confronte alors aux prémices de la production et d'enrichir son carnet d'adresses. Après avoir travaillé avec les Roots, les Pharcyde entre autre, Kentaro réalise son premier album "Enter". Pour un premier essai, il s'avère concluant, subtil mélange de technique et créativité. Son invitation à "entrer" nous emmène vers des contrées déjà balisées comme la drum & bass ou le breakbeat, alternant des morceaux instrumentaux et des featurings de choix. New Flesh, Pharcyde, Fat Jon ont accepté l'invitation tout comme certains compatriotes de Kentaro comme Little Tempo, groupe japonais déjanté ou encore le collectif de scratcheurs, Hifana dont l'album est à recommander (c'est chose faite maintenant !). Kentaro est une star au Japon et revêt son armure de vinyls pour conquérir le monde. Tout un programme...
Le premier maxi issu de l'album est "Free", enregistré lors d'une longue session alcoolisée avec l'une des sensations de l'année 2006 Spank Rock qui tournait justement au Japon. Ronnie Darko et Chris Rockswell, adeptes de la "liberté" (qu'elle soit musicale, sexuelle ou tout autre), ont su se fondre dans l'univers étonnant de Kentaro. Au final une déformation du funk des années 70 avec une basse lascive, des paroles explicites et des applaudissements géants. Un spectacle suréaliste où l'union fait la force. Spankentaro à fond !
Kentaro is back! First the EP coming from the album is “Free”, in one long, drunken and wild session with Baltimore Spank Rock while they toured Japan. Ronnie Darko and Chris Rockswell, followers of “freedom” (in musical, sexual and any other meanings), knew to enter in the astonishing universe of Kentaro. The resuls is a deformation of the Seventies funk with giant handclaps, lascivious bass and explicit lyrics. A surealist spectacle where the union makes the force. Keep it up Spankentaro!
