Depuis des années, on attendait la version album du duo autrichien Makossa et Megablast, membres de la team G-Stone, maison de disque qui a supporté quelques maxis concernant le tandem viennois. Ces derniers ont vu leur single "Like A Rocket / Kunuaka" se retrouver sur la playlist de Radio Nova l’année dernière et encensé par Gilles Peterson et le buzz est monté d'un cran autour d'un album qui s'annonçait grandiose.
Ca y est, c'est officiel et bientôt disponible : "Kunuaka" est donc le premier album de ces spécialistes d'un dub dynamique polyvalent et futuriste. Makossa et Megablast réussissent un tour de force en dynamitant les frontières, créant de véritables couloirs aériens fusionnant les styles de tous les continents, de l'afro-électro aux sons brésiliens en passant par les rythmes cubains, toujours agrémentés d'influences jamaicaines. Aucun titre à jeter, des invités en pagaille, du groove diamanté, une perle musicale ! Les voici au panthéon des plus grands producteurs avec une oeuvre que je ne peux que qualifier de majeure.
"Mama". Une nappe de synthé planante vous transporte pour ce titre aux messages humanistes et religieux avec les chants africains sous forme d'incantations du sénégalais 3gga et le toast de l'anglo-jamaicain MC Ras-Tweed. Quelque soit la croyance, le dieu, nous sommes tous les enfants d'une "Mama" !
For couple of years, I have waited for the album of the Austrian duet Makossa & Megablast, members of the G-Stone team, label which released the EPs of the Viennese guys. The two friends saw their EP “Like A Rocket / Kunuaka” at the first place on the playlist of French Radio Nova last year and nominated at the awards of Gilles Peterson's show. And the buzz was high and high around their album.
It's time now, it is official and soon available : “Kunuaka” is the first album of these specialists in a general-purpose, futuristic and dynamic dub. Makossa & Megablast have done a fantastic exploit by dynamiting all borders, creating real air lanes amalgamating msuic styles from all continents, afro-electro with Brazilian sounds while passing by cuban rhythms, always under influences from Jamaica and Europe. All tracks are excellent, the guests are many and good : a diamonds groove, a musical pearl ! Here they are at the Hall Of Fame of the best producers with an album than I can only qualify as a major one.
“Mama”. A planing synthetisor transports you for this track to a humanistic and religious message with the African songs reminding incantations with the Senegalese singer 3gga and the toast of the english & jamaican MC Ras-Tweed. No mater your belief, your god, we are all the children of a “Mama”!
