Telepopmusik prend naissance à la fin des années 90 lorsque trois amis férus de musique électronique, Stéphan Haeri, Christophe Hétier et Fabrice Dumont, se décident à investir la scène électro française qui, à l'époque, était à son apogée, French Touch oblige. Assez proche de l'univers de Zero 7, Telepopmusik définit musicalement un décor aérien où l'auditeur est transporté dans un véritable écrin de coton.

Après un premier morceau 'Sonic 75' déjà accrocheur, ils sortent en 2001 leur premier opus 'Genetic World' qui fera mouche. Succès d'estime et commercial car Telepopmusik à l'image de Moby a vu ses morceaux repris par un nombre incroyable de publicités. Ils signent sur Capitol Records qui reste à mi-chemin entre une Major dans le sens capitalistique du terme et un label qualité vu les artistes signés : Beastie Boys, Snoop Dogg, Supergrass qui côtoient les Red Hot Chili Peppers, Coldplay et Kylie Minogue. C'est l'année 2005 qui se voit gratifier de la sortie du second album 'Angel Milk'. Même recette que pour le précédent où une certaine ambiance "smooth" confirme leur marque de fabrication et surtout où les collaborations sont multiples. On retrouve Mau, chanteur du regretté et méconnu Earthling (groupe phare du mouvement trip-hop. A écouter d'urgence si vous ne connaissez pas) ou encore Deborah Anderson. En revanche une petite nouveauté sur ce nouvel opus : de vrais musiciens ont participé à l'enregistrement. Avec harpe, cuivres, cordes, l'influence Cinematic Orchestra se ressent fortement. Le résultat est ravissant et l'objectif atteint : séduire tout en sortant des sentiers battus par les Star Ac' ou consors !

Une autre chanteuse, Angela McCluskey, participe à l'album et dépose sa voix si délicate sur le titre "Don't Look Back" qui squatte mon ipod tellement l'ambiance est à multiples facettes : lounge tendance Café del Mare, trance avec ses nappes synthétiques, drum & bass par ses cassures rythmiques et même un côté pop. They signed on Capitol Records which is between a Major in the capital intensive direction of the term and a good quality label considering the signed artists : Beastie Boys, Snoop Dogg, Supergrass but also Red Hot Chili Peppers, Coldplay and Kylie Minogue. 2005 is the year of the launch of the second album 'Angel Milk'. Same environment really "smooth" (it reminds me some nice tunes of Cafe Del Mare compilations) which confirms their typical style and especially where collaborations are multiple. One finds Mau, singer of regretted and ignored Earthling (headlight group of the movement trip-hop. To listen urgently if you do not know him) or Deborah Anderson. On the other hand a small innovation on this new opus: real musicians took part in this recording. With toothing-stone, coppers, cords, the influence Cinematic Orchestra strongly feels. The result is great and the objective is achieved : to allure while leaving the paths beaten by the Star Idols or marketing music !

Another singer, Angela McCluskey, takes part in the album and offers her delicate voice on the title "Don't Look Back", I can't remove frommy ipod. Why ? Because there is a special environment with different facets : lounge music tendency, trance music with ambient synthetiser, drum & bass with its breakbeat and even a pop influence. To (re)discover.

Astrud Gilberto est un monument historique de la musique brésilienne parfois samba parfois bossa nova. Elle fut propulsé sur le devant de la scène au milieu des année 60 grâce au succès du titre 'Girl from Ipanema'. Mariée puis divorcée de Joao Gilberto, autre figure de proue brésilienne, avec qui elle donna naissance à la non moins fameuse Bebel Gilberto (y aurait-il un chromosome "Chanteur" chez les Gilberto ?), elle traverse les décennies avec élégance même si son succès est tout relatif.

Elle sortira la plupart de ses albums sur le vénérable label de jazz, Verve, qui façonne du swing depuis des dizaines d'années. Cette maison au catalogue immense a eu voici quelques années la bonne idée de lancer en 2002 une série de compilations sous le nom "Verve Remixed". Objectif avoué : créer un lieu de rencontre entre les DJs et producteurs les plus novateurs du moment et le meilleur de l'histoire du jazz afin de faire découvrir l'univers jazz. A l'opposé de trop nombreuses compilations, Verve n'assure pas un tracklist version Best Of et a faire appel à des célébrités ou des tâcherons qui pondent des remixes à la chaîne. Bien au contraire, ce sont souvent des titres méconnus issus des discographies de Nina Simone, Billie Holiday ou encore Sarah Vaughan qui sont passés à la moulinette par des artistes de tout bord Mr Scruff, Gotan Project, Fila Brazillia, Adam Freeland pour n'en citer que quelques-uns. Le volume 3 est clairement orienté hip-hop avec Lyrics Born, Danger Mouse aux manettes remixantes.

Autre exemple, le morceau 'The Gentle Rain' d'Astrud Gilberto est retravaillée, réactualisée par RJD2, digne héritier de DJ Shadow. Son interprétation à la fois sensible et radicale montre ce qui distingue un bon mix d’un mauvais avec un piano discret et des rythmes élégiaques qui offrent à la voix féline d'Astrud Gilberto une dynamique neuve. Superbe titre que l'on soit fan ou non de jazz.

Married then divorced from Joao Gilberto, another Brazilian figurehead, with who she gave rise to not less famous Bebel Gilberto (Would there be a chromosome "Singer" in Gilberto family ?), she crosses the decades with elegance even if her success is quite relative.

She released the majority of her opus on the worthy label of jazz, Verve, which swings us since tens of years. This house with the immense catalogue had a few years ago the good idea to launch in 2002 a serie of compilations under the name "Verve Remixed". Acknowledged objective : to create a place of meeting between the most innovative producers and DJs of the moment and the best of jazz history for promoting and discovering the jazz universe. Quite to the contrary, they are often unknown titles resulting from discographies of Nina Simone, Billie Holiday or Sarah Vaughan who are remixed by artists of any music style, such as Mr Scruff, Gotan Project, Fila Brazillia, Adam Freeland to quote only some of them. Volume 3 is clearly influenced by hip-hop with Lyrics Born, Danger Mouse for example.

Another one is the track 'The Gentle Rain' of Astrud Gilberto which is worked over again, updated by RJD2, worthy heir of DJ Shadow. Its at the same time significant interpretation and radical watch what distinguishes a good mix from bad with a discrete piano and elegant rhythms which offers to the cat-like voice of Astrud Gilberto a new dynamics. Superb title for people who are or not fan of jazz.

Sébastien Tellier est un ovni à la dégaine de cowboy avec ses weston sans chaussette, habillé en bourgeois grunge buvant son vin à la bouteille. Timide et charismatique, il cultive le paradoxe donnant l'impression de s'écrire la vie d'un Rimbaud contemporain. Ce serait trop simple de le qualifier d'atypique et expliquer le personnage serait trop complexe. Je préfère plutôt parler de sa musique pour appréhender le bonhomme.

En 2001 sort son premier album 'L'incroyable Vérité' la critique encense les superlatifs s'emballent et ses premières parties de la tournée de Air, versaillais comme lui et Daft Punk entre autre, ne font que confirmer le talent de l'homme. En plus il sait s'entourer car c'est Mr Oizo, Aka Quentin Dupieux qui réalise ses clips. Puis il finit par élire domicile dans le studio parisien de Philippe Zdar, la moitié de Cassius, pour enregistrer son second album 'Politics', sorti sur le label du duo Air, Records Makers, à qui l'on doit également le rapper versaillais, fou, frustré et tendance puceau, Le Klub des Loosers. Cet opus est un vrai engagement pour défendre les minorités sud-américaines, africaines, indiennes... mais c'est surtout l'album aux styles épars et variés consacrant son don de compositeur. Les titres 'Bye Bye', 'Broadway' sont pop et simplement magnifiques.

Le nirvana, c'est le titre 'La Ritournelle' avec quatre minutes de montée en puissance et un atterrisage vocal. Sébastien Tellier raconte même qu'il pleurait en la composant : c'est donc cela de la musique-émotion ! La version choisie est remixée par Mr Dan et reste très proche de l'originale. Difficile de se confronter à une telle merveille. C'est un exploit que d'avoir magnifié ce titre en jouant sur les rythmes, me rappelant ceux de 'Unfinished Sympathy' des cultissimes Massive Attack. Un mariage simple mais bon. Sortez les mouchoirs et bonne écoute !

Shy and charismatic, he cultivates the paradox giving the impression to write the life of contemporary Rimbaud. It would be too simple to qualify him the atypical one and to explain the character would be too complex. I rather prefer to speak about his music to apprehend the guy.

In 2001 his first album 'Incredible Vérité' was released and criticism encense superlatives pack and his first part of the tour of Air, from Versailles like him and Daft Punk amongst other things, confirms the talent of the man. What's more he can be surrounded because it is Mr Oizo, Aka Quentin Dupieux which produces his video clips. Then he ended up electing residence in the Parisian studio of Philippe Zdar, half of Cassius, to record his second album 'Politics', released on the label of the duet Air, Records Makers, with which one also owes the rapper, insane, frustrated and virgin tendency, Le Klub des Loosers. This opus is a true engagement to defend the minorities : South American, African, Indian... but it is especially the album with the scattered and varied styles devoting his gift of type-setter. The tracks 'Bye Bye', 'Broadway' are pop and simply splendid.

The nirvana is the track 'La Ritournelle' with four minutes of rise to power and a vocal landing. Sebastien Tellier even tells that he cried by composing it : it is thus music-emotion ! The selected version is remixed by Mr. Dan and remains very close to the original one. Difficult to confront itself with such a wonder. It is an exploit to have magnified this title while exploiting the rhythms, pointing out those of 'Unfinished to Sympathy' of the worship Massive Attack. A simple marriage but good. Leave the handkerchiefs and have a good listening !
