Je ne connaissais pas Kidkanevil jusqu'à un message de Bonobo qui encensait le premier maxi de ce natif de Leeds. Kidkanevil est le producteur d'un hip-hop à tendance abstract, créant un pont entre RJD2, maître du sampling et Timbaland, beatmaker divin. Vraiment impressionnant.
A l'image de son album "Problems & Solutions" ! Cet opus dispose d'une production exceptionnelle, d'une densité rare et d'une cohérence suprenante pour un premier album. Surfant d'un acid-jazz downtempo "Cood Morning, What's New?" à un hip-hop madlibien "Rainstorm" en passant par une ballade que ne renierait pas DJ Shadow "The Hours", Kidkanevil réussit un tour de force à hauteur de son talent. Pas étonnant que Gilles Peterson, Mr Scruff et DJ Vadim aient rejoint Bonobo au rang des fans. "Problems & Solutions" est tout simplement brilliant, certainement un futur classique !
"Fire" est à coup sûr le titre phare de l'album. Plus je l'écoute, plus je pense à Mia, aux productions de Diplo en plus propre en terme de production. Le flow de Yarah Bravo qui déroule, un beat saccadé que Timbaland aurait pu créé, une boucle de flûte entêtante et le tour est joué. La recette semble simple mais la mayonnaise prend sans difficulté.
I did not know Kidkanevil until a message of Bonobo who complimented about the first EP of this guy from Leeds. Kidkanevil is a producer of a hip-hop with abstract tendency, creating a bridge between RJD2, master of sampling and Timbaland, divine beatmaker. Really impressive.
As his album “Problems & Solutions”! This opus has an exceptional production, a rare density and a surprising coherence for a first album. Surfing on a downtempo acid-jazz “Cood Morning, What's New?”, on a madlib's hip-hop “Rainstorm” or on an abstract hip-hop track that DJ Shadow would not disavow “The Hours”, Kidkanevil succeeds in every style as his talent allows him. Not astonishing that Gilles Peterson, Mr. Scruff and DJ Vadim joined Bonobo in the fans circle. “Problems & Solutions” are quite simply brilliant, certainly a future classic!
“Fire” is undoubtedly the headlight track of the album. The more I listen to it, the more I think of Mia, of Diplo's productions but with a cleaner production. The flow of Yarah Bravo who rocks, jerked beats that Timbaland could created, a loop of hypnotic flute and it's done ! The receipt seems simple but what a delight.
