Derrière le nom Lanu se cache le néo-zélandais, Lance Ferguson. C'est en s'installant en Australie qu'il se décide enfin d'explorer sa passion pour les rythmes latinos et jazzy, la soul, le hip-hop. Il devient alors DJ dont la réputation a dépassé les frontières du pacifique et lance son projet The Bamboos qui puise son essence du passé pour mieux appréhender l'avenir. La musique est un art qui nécessite des passionnés, Lanu faisant parti de cette tribu.
The Bamboos sans connaître un succès incroyable est parvenu à se faire une place dans les CDthèques de chacun à travers une présence quasi monopolistique dans des compilations de nujazz et de lounge. Mais Lance Ferguson ne pouvait se contenter de cette réussite, aspirant à découvrir de nouveaux horizons plus en phase avec ses goûts, lui qui a été si influencé par les rythmes digitaux de Détroit et du West London. Lanu est ainsi né. Comme l'indique en Togan son nom, la couleur de son premier album chez Tru Thoughts qui sortira prochainement, "This My Home", revêt un apparat qui rappellera à certain le Quantic Soul Orchestra, tout en énergie et versatilité. Lanu nous accompagne dans un parcours initiatique voluptueux aux emprises de jazz et d'un funk profond et punchy auquel s'associent le chanteur Aloe Blacc de Stones Throw ou encore Kero One mais surtout Christine Derales qui est une immense révélation pour moi. Un superbe opus à écouter aussi bien avec des écouteurs qu'avec un énorme soundsystem.
Le morceau d'introduction "Dis-Information" annonce la Lanu, une couleur or soleil qui rend les matins plus gais et les levers plus évidents. Titre up-tempo, il s'articule autour d'un beat insistant habillé d'un moog ravageur en basse et d'un rhodes enjoué. Sorti en maxi, vous aurez le choix entre la version chantée et la version instrumentale. Mon coeur balance pour celle laissant toute la place aux instruments.

The Bamboos without having an incredible success has a place in all cd library thanks to a hegemony place in all lounge or nujazz compilations. But Lance Ferguson could not be satisfied with this success, and wanted to discover new horizons more in phase with his music aspirations which influenced him such as digital beats from Detroit and West London. So Lanu was born. As its name indicates in "Togan", the color of his first album on Tru Thoughts Records which will be released very soon, “This My Home”, wears a pageantry which will recall to some Quantic Soul Orchestra's tunes, all in energy and fickleness. Lanu accompanies us in a voluptuous initiatory race with influences of jazz and punchy deep funk and invites some singers such as Aloe Blacc from Stones Throw or Kero One and especially Christine Derales who is an immense revelation to me. A wonderful opus to listen as well with ear-phones as with an enormous soundsystem.
The first track “Dis-Information” announces Lanu, a sunny gold color which makes brighter mornings and wake-ups more obvious. Up-tempo tune, it is articulated around a insistent beat accompanied of with a devastating moog line-bass and a cheerful rhodes. Avalaible in EP, you will have the choice between the sung version and an instrumental one. I prefer the instrumenal but make your own choice.
