DJ Mehdi est un type à part, sympa, simple, ouvert d'esprit. Fidèle à lui-même, il est de ceux qui font avancer la musique décloisonnant les styles. Lui qui vient du hip-hop, mixant dans les soirées, produisant des albums (MC Solaar, Assassins, 113...), Dj Mehdi abât les cloisons se ressourçant aussi bien dans le rock que le hip-hop, dans le reggae que le Rn'B.
En 2002, il sort son premier album "(The Story Of) Espion", sorte de tête chercheuse qui ravit de nombreux personnes, vu le succès qu'il obtient. C'est le premier producteur hip-hop qui sort des clichés que l'on peut voir en France à travers Cut Killer et d'autres. Il s'intéresse ainsi de plus en plus à l'électro, c'est lui qui fit venir Thomas Bangalter sur un titre du 113 "Le 113 Fout La Merde". Il poursuit ses explorations éclectiques et participe à différents projets dont celui avec Kroutrajmé "Des Friandises Pour Ta Bouche". DJ Mehdi est revenu en 2006 après avoir intégré l'écurie Ed Banger avec "Lucky Boy". C’est toujours aussi bien produit, toujours aussi percutant. On se laisse transporter aisément par cet excellent électro-funk, à coups sûr redoutable sur un dancefloor ("I Am Somebody", "Boggin", "Always Be An Angel"). Voici venue une nouvelle ère au hip-hop à la fois moite et complexe, froid et direct.
La sortie du EP "Lucky Girl" est l'occasion de découvrir une relecture du titre "Signatune" sur lequel a travaillé Thomas Bangalter des Daft Punk. Ce morceau a ce goût de faste des années 80, pour certains cela paraîtra kitsch et cela semble résolument volontaire de la part des protagonistes. Il n'y a qu'à voir le clip qui relate la vie d'un Rocky Balboa du tuning du Nord qui se lance dans une compétition de SPL, Sound Pressure Level.
