Mr Oizo, aka Quentin Dupieux, est l'un des artistes français le plus étrange. A mes yeux, il est aussi dérangé que talentueux, comme habité par un esprit azimuté. Il n'en demeure pas moins que Mr Oizo déborde d'une imagination fantastique et qu'il excelle dans tous les domaines auxquels il s'attaque, que ce soit la publicité (Levi's avec sa marionnette Flat Eric), la vidéo et cinéma (son film "Steak" qui sort prochainement) et bien entendu la musique.
Grâce à sa publicité Levi's, Mr Oizo sort un énorme track "Flat Beat" mondialement connu. Il signe alors sur le principal label français de musique électronique de l'époque, F Com et sort deux albums "Analog Worms Attack" et "Moustache (Half A Scissor)". Mr Oizo se fait plaisir, dynamite le format album autant que le format morceau, déstructure, agresse pour mieux nous étonner. C'est un artiste tranchant et complexe, hors de toute neutralité et obsédé par déstabilisation. Que l'on adhère ou non, Mr Oizo ne laisse pas indifférent. F Com étant en perte de vitesse, Mr Oizo rejoint la famille du label Ed Banger dont il se sent à coups sûr beaucoup plus proche. Première étape, "Intra" qui ouvre la compilation "Ed Records Volume 2" ; la seconde est un EP "Transexual" qui correspond totalement à l'esprit et la patte du label de Pedro Winter. Au programme, de l'électro totalement barrée et follement addictive, Mr Oizo craint et respecté accentue ainsi sa côte d'amour (ou de désamour pour certains).
Il frappe fort avec "Patrick", titre funky et disco revu à la sauce Oizo. Une production déjantée, un style singulier pour ce morceau en 2 parties, d'un côté un sample vocal disco (encore non identifié. Laissez un commentaire si vous connaissez la source) et de l'autre un sample de saxo aussi entraînant et qu'entêtant. Mr Oizo m'a épaté avec une inspiration qui rend "Patrick" imparable. First step, a song “Intra” which opens compilation “ED Records Volume 2”; the second one is an EP “Transexual” which corresponds completely to the spirit and style of Pedro Winter's label. At the menu, electro completely crazy and madly addictive, Mr. Oizo will increase his fans love (or hate for the others).
It rocks extremely with “Patrick”, funky and disco track revisited by a Oizo sauce. A production removed from rim, a singular style for a song in 2 parts, on a side a vocal disco music sample (still not identified. Leave a comment if you know the original) and on an other a sample of involving saxophone. Mr. Oizo impressed me with an inspiration which makes “Patrick” excellent. Absolute respect!
