Mogwai formé en 1995 par Stuart Baithwaite (guitare) et Dominic Aitchison (basse) est rapidement rejoint par Martin Bulloch (batterie) et John Cummings (guitare). Depuis 10 ans, ces "marins" écossais naviguent sur les océans tumultueux d'un rock lourd et pesant teinté d'électronique tout comme sur les mers hybrides à base de synthétiseurs et de saturations propice à l'évasion.
En quête permanente de nouveaux horizons, le groupe ne cesse de repousser ses limites parvenant à surprendre à chaque sortie leurs auditeurs. Après deux albums épiques, une série de singles, qui dure pas loin de 40 minutes, un nouveau venu, le multi-instrumentaliste Barry Burns, apporte un nouveau dynamisme au quintette transformant leur post-rock en un rock instrumental atmosphérique. Mogwai vient de sortir un nouvel album 'Mr. Beast', synthèse générale de leur oeuvre, véritable cadeau récapitulatif de leurs 10 années d'existence. C'est une sortie sur l'excellent label Matador Records qui accueille entre autre Interpol, Cat Power, Belle & Sebastian...
De leur construction lyrique typique et fantastique, quelques perles de songwriting sont à découvrir tel que "Auto Rock", piste d’ouverture de l'album, qui, telle une chevauchée motorisée, condense, avec sa lente progression sur fond de grosse caisse, les émotions et l'énergie à un paroxysme tel que l'on n'en sort pas indemne.

From their typical and fantastic lyric construction, some pearls of songwriting are to be discovered such as "Auto Rock", opening track of the album, which, such a car ride, condenses, with its slow progression on bottom of breaks, emotions and energy with a paroxysm such as one does not leave unharmed there.
