Est-il vraiment nécessaire de présenter Timbaland ? Producteur de hip-hop et de R&b américain, fantastique beatboxer, un surdoué qui fit ses armes aux côtés de Missy Elliot qui lui doit beaucoup. Timbaland est un radar qui scrute toutes les scènes musicales dans le monde, un obsédé de l'ouverture d'esprit, se refusant de se cantonner à un genre qui fusionne les styles pour en extraire un jus urbain donc souvent noir mais plein d'énergie.
Snoop Dogg, Aaliyah, Brandy, Missy Elliott, Ludacris... La liste des noms parle d'elle-même : Timbaland est un mentor, un Quincy Jones du XXIe siècle, le concurrent de Pharrel Williams en terme de production. Cet éclectique après avoir intégré des éléments électroniques, de la drum'n bass, des rythmiques africaines, s'est investi dans le spectre pop, style certes fédérateur mais périlleux pour Timbaland. Il s'est donc occupé de produire le dernier album de Justin Timberlake qui comporte quelques pétites, tout en prennant sous son aile la canadienne Nelly Furtado (plus anecdotique, selon moi). Timbaland arrive un nouvel album solo, preuve qu'il est un monstre de travail et possède une inspiration sans fin. "Shock Value" est varié, étalant le large horizon de ce passionné de musique. Timbaland ne se privent d'invités faisant appel aussi bien à quelques grosses pointures comme d'illustres inconnus. Mis à part les quelques titres rock plutôt ratés, les morceaux sont excellents : "Fantasy" avec Money et "Miscommunication" avec Sebastian, "Bounce" avec Dr Dre, Missy Elliott et Timberlake, "Boardmeeting" avec Magoo sont de véritables tueries qui confirment une fois de plus que Timbaland est incontournable actuellement, menant d'une main de maître une carrière très impressionnante.
"Oh Timbaland" fait l'ouverture de l'album et pourrait surprendre de nombreuses personnes. Ce morceau au groove africain rappelle sans aucun doute les productions funk de Kuti père et fils avec une guitare slappée, des choeurs "africains" annonçant la venue de Timbaland. Loin d'être un standard radio, ce titre est un diamant sonore.

Except the rock'n'roll tracks I dislike, the others are really excellent : “Fantasy” with Money and “Miscommunication” with Sebastian, “Bounce” with Dr. Dre, Missy Elliott and Timberlake, "Boardmeeting" with Magoo are killer tunes which once more confirm Timbaland is currently impossible to circumvent, managing very well an impressive career.

This track with an African groove recalls without any doubt the funk productions of Kuti father and son with a slapped guitar, african choruses announcing the arrival of Timbaland. Far from being a radio standard, this track is a sound diamond.
