Une star en devenir ? L'avenir nous le dira. Collie Buddz, alias Colin Harper, est la révélation de l'année du reggae. Ce "blanc" américain issu de la Nouvelle Orléans a émigré dans l'île antillaise des Bermudes et ainsi se retrouver dans le coeur de la musique jamaicaine. Il a une belle gueule, du style et vient de poser sa voix sur un morceau avec Beyonce "Ring The Alarm". La comparaison avec Sean Paul est ainsi très forte sachant que Collie Buddz dispose d'un timbre de voix plus claire que le jamaicain.
Collie Buddz se pose en représentant de l'île qui l'accueille. On ressent à travers les productions l'atmosphère caractéristique des caraibes, le soleil, le carnaval, les palmiers, les murs peints d'effigies et messages, les ambiances rasta... Les riddims qu'utilisent Collie Buddz sont excellents alternant reggae classique, dancehall plus actuel. Mais c'est surtout sa voix, son flow qui magnifie les instrumentaux. Il a cette diction, cette façon de chanter qui accroche immédiatement, bien que typique du genre mais à un niveau largement supérieur de tout ceux qui peuplent la scène reggae-dub-dancehall.
Le morceau "Come Around" est un titre reggae par excellence. Des cuivres, une guitare et une basse gigantesque. Logique puisqu'il s'agit d'un riddim déjà maintes fois utilisé (notamment par le rappeur américain albinos Brother Ali sur "Champion Remix"). Reste une fois de plus que la voix de Collie Buddz fait la différence. Un vrai coup de coeur.
Is a star born ? The future will say it to us. Collie Buddz, alias Hake To grip, are the revelation of the year of the reggae. This American “white” resulting from the Orleans News emigrated in the West-Indian island of Bermuda and thus to find itself in the heart of the music jamaicaine. It has a beautiful mouth, style and has just posed its voice on a piece with Beyonce “Boxing ring The Alarm”. The comparison with Sean Paul is thus very strong knowing that Collie Buddz has a stamp of voice clearer than the jamaicain.
Collie Buddz is posed by representing island which accomodates it. One feels through the productions the carabian atmosphere, the sun, the carnival, the palm trees, the painted walls of effigies and messages, environments rasta… The riddims which use Collie Buddz are excellent alternating reggae traditional, dancehall more current. But it is especially its voice, its flow which magnifie the instrumental ones. It has this diction, this way of singing which hangs immediately, although typical kind but on a largely higher level of all those which populate the scene reggae-dub-dancehall.
The track “Come Around” is a title reggae par excellence. Coppers, a guitar and low gigantic. Logic since it is about a riddim already many times used (in particular by the American rappor albino Brother Ali on “Remix Champion”). Remain once more that the voice of Collie Buddz makes the difference. A true blow of heart.
