Après avoir chroniqué mon premier groupe hollandais The Jazzinvaders, voici le retour discret de Gerd, duo de Rotterdam composé de Gert-Jan Bijl and Paulo Delgado. Certes inconnus du grand public, ils possèdent une excellente réputation pour leurs productions et remixes. Ils sont ultra productifs multipliant les projets comme Delgui, soul électronique uptempo, les maxis sur toute une ribambelle de labels (Global Communication, Compost, ART, Pork Recordings, K7!...).
Ils en sont à leur troisième album avec "Perspectives" sorti sur le label belge Life Enhancing Audio. Comme à leur habitude, vous naviguerez en pleine fusion de funk, de nu-jazz, de soul, d'électronica et de broken beats. Les featurings sont aussi nombreux que de qualité où le timbre de chacune des chanteuses (Guida de Palma, Dee Ferguson, Natalie Gardiner, Vanessa Freeman and Twana Rhodes) s'avère un atout magificiant les compositions des deux bataves. Comme son titre l'annonce, les perspectives sont nombreuses et le choix de satisfaire chaque auditeur, chaque humeur nous est proposé : de la joie en ouverture avec 'Elementz' à la mélancolie avec 'Deep Moon'. Un album à rechercher, à écouter et à apprécier (Approuvé par Gilles Peterson himself selon certains sites).
Les beaux jours ont pointé le bout de leur nez et ont trouvé leur bande son avec le morceau "Fire In My Soul". Ce mélange d'acid jazz (on pense énormément aux premiers titres des Brand New Heavies et de Jamiroquai) et de lounge music accéléré (du Café Del Mare spontané comme il ne s'en fait que trop rarement) donne un mouvement à nos coins de lèvres qui remontent naturellement, inspire les bouches à se rapprocher... C'est chaud, c'est joyeux, c'est bon...
After reviewing my first Dutch band, The Jazzinvaders, here is the discrete return of Gerd, duet of Rotterdam founded by Gert-Jan Bijl and Paulo Delgado. Unknown for most of us, they have an excellent reputation for their productions and remixes. They work hard multiplying the projects like Delgui, soul electronic uptempo, some EPs on a whole long string of labels (Global Communication, Compost, ART, Pork Recordings, K7! …).
They come back with their third album “Perspectives” released on the Belgian label Life Enhancing Audio. As usual, you will sail in a full fusion of funk, nu-jazz, soul, electronica and broken beats. The featurings are many and of quality where the whispering timbre of each singer (Guida de Palma, Dee Ferguson, Natalie Gardiner, Vanessa Freeman and Twana Rhodes) is an asset magificiant the compositions of the two Batavians. As its title presents, the perspectives are unlimited and the choice to satisfy each listener, each mood is offered to us :from joy in opening with “Elementz” to melancoly with “Deep Moon”. An album to look for, to listen and to appreciate (Approved by Gilles Peterson himself according to few websites).
Beautiful days with warmness arrive and find their soundtrack with the track “Fire In My Soul”. This mixture of acid jazz (you may think about the first songs of Brand New Heavies and Jamiroquai) and of uptempo lounge music (spontaneous Cafe Del Mare as it was at the beginning and not anymore) gives a movement to our lips corners going up naturally, invites mouths to approach… It is hot, merry, it is good…
