Cela fait quelques mois déjà que je constate la résurrection de la Piano House, genre particulièrement développé dans les années 90. Et DJ Mehdi frappe fort avec "Pocket Piano" qui est tout bonnement divin, notamment les remixes de Joakim et surtout de Brodinski qui parvient à faire de ce morceau une montée permanente. Gare à la redescente !

A l'approche des fêtes, rien de mieux qu'une ambiance feutrée. Un peu de jazz, de downtempo, voilà ce que propose The Dining Rooms avec "Other Ink", album composés de remixes de Christian Prommer, The Cinematic Orchestra, Marcello Testa Trio ou encore S-Tone ainsi que de titres inédits. Dont "Thank You", qui me rappelle certains titres du groupe anglais Head & Neck Sessions, avec une basse classe, un synthé planant, une jolie voie féminine et un doux phrasé masculin. J'ai toujours été fasciné par l'originalité et l'innovation surtout quand elles sont teintées d'intelligence. Terry Lynn est rapidement pour moi devenue une icone. Tout d'abord par son discours qui peint et dépeint la Jamaique d'aujourd'hui, dénonce les violences, la pauvreté et les abus sur base de revendications politiques... I am always fascinated by originality and innovation especially when they are tinged with intelligence. Terry Lynn is quickly for me become an icon. First of all by her lyrics which paints and depicts current Jamaica, denounces violence, poverty and abuses on base of political demands... Then by the music which synthetizes dancehall, electronic music, dub and hip-hop. Finally by her visual environment in the form of finely light and very rough metaphor to support her lyrics as the video below of the track "The System", which compares the jamaican situation and the animals slaughterhouse. C'est mon disque de chevet pour noël , un maxi de deux allemands, Knee Deep, "French Love". Comme son nom l'indique, ces morceaux inédits sont largement inspirés de la French Touch, des productions du label Roulé, des morceaux d'Alan Braxe. En découvrant le titre "Sweet Love", j'ai cru que c'était lui derrière un nouveau pseudo. C'est frais, groovy, un rayon de soleil pour se réchauffer en cet hiver rude.

It is my Christmas opus, an EP of two German producers, Knee Deep, "French Love". As its name indicates, these new tracks are widely inspired by the French Touch, productions of the label Roulé and Alan Braxe's tunes. By discovering the song "Sweet Love", I believed that it was Alan Braxe behind a new nickname. It is fresh, groovy, a sunbeam to warm yourself during this rough winter.

Le monde de la nuit est obscur, c'est certainement pour cette raison que j'y retourne toujours avec plaisir. Un univers propices aux expériences, un contexte idéal à l'intensité et surtout un témoignage de la vie d'aujourd'hui. Sur le clip "Cornelius" des italiens, The Bloody Beetroots, on retrouve les excès en tout genre, alcool, drogue, sexe, violence et le grand n'importe quoi pour se défouler (mention spéciale pour la scène de la bière bue assis dans un tourniquet qui tourne). En résumé, c'est brutal, réaliste et efficace.

The world of night parties is dark, it is certainly for that reason I always return to it with pleasure. A universe convenient to the experiments, an ideal context for intensity and especially a testimony of the current life. Alors que WhoMadeWho se fait désirer pour son second album, la scène musicale danoise frappe fort avec le groupe The Asteroids Galaxy Tour. Le single "Around The Bend" fait un carton avec un buzz important. Pourtant la chanteuse Mette Lindberg et sa bande, fascinés par la soul des années 60 et la pop psychédélique, ont fait mieux avec "The Sun Ain't Shining No More" qui m'a rappelé un certain "Walking On The Sun" version féminine. Fans de Smash Mouth ou des Fun Lovin' Criminals, vous adorerez.

Je bypass la présentation du producteur techno français, The Hacker, déja mentionné plusieurs sur ce blog. Reste à parler de son nouveau maxi "Mumu" dont le face B "Falling" a été tel un cadeau kinder surprise. "Falling" reste un morceau techno dans la tradition à ceci prêt qu'à son écoute avec écouteurs obligatoires, vous vous retrouverez avec la tête qui tourne (et sans prise de drogue, je précise). Prêt pour l'expérience, partez !

Le DJ producteur canadien Tiga a ce brin de folie qui vous fait adorer le personnage. Je fais partie de ceux qui trouve en ce dandy efféminé et proche des 2 Many DJs de quoi se réjouir : un sens de la fête incroyable, une ambivalence entre des productions aux contours populaires et d'autres plus underground et barrés. Son nouvel opus "Mind Dimension" se range dans la seconde catégorie mais se révèle imparable dès 3h du mat'.

The Canadian DJ producer Tiga has this crazyness which makes you loving him. I am one of those who find in this effeminate dandy close to 2 Many DJs something delighted: a pure sense of making party, an ambivalence between productions with pop outlines and others more underground and mad. His new opus "Mind Dimension" lines up in the second category but shows itself unstoppable when it's 3 AM.

Je n'avais pas pris le temps de parler de "Third" qui comme son nom l'indique est le troisième album de Portishead. Un de mes groupes fétiches m'avait décontenancé lors des premières écoutes car les 3 compères étaient à mille lieux de ce que j'imaginais. Mais avec le temps, des oreilles malmenées et un peu de curiosité, l'album se révèle riche et finalement en phase avec le groupe à savoir la mélancolie, le spleen, bref à vif. Et pour le 3e maxi "Magic Doors", le réalisateur John Minton présente une double approche visuelle mi-réelle mi-surréaliste, forcément oppressante et hypnotique, idéale pour ce morceau qui fait partie de mes préférés.

I did not take time to speak about "Third" which as its name mentions it, is the third album of Portishead. One of my favourite band had embarrassed me during the first listenings because the 3 accomplices were far from what I expected for. But time after time, manhandled ears and a lot of curiosity, the album shows itself rich and finally in sync with Portishead, I mean the melancholy, the spleen, brief in notch. And for the 3rd EP "Magic Doors", The director John Minton presents a double visual approach half real half surrealist, necessarily oppressive and hypnotic, well ideal for this tune which is my preferred.

Hallucinant, c'est l'adjectif pour ce billet. D'un côté, voici l'histoire de The Captain, fils de capitaine né dans les années 60, grand voyageur jusqu'à ce qu'il termine en prison pour avoir dragué la reine Elisabeth (!). Ce serait de sa prison qu'il ferait de la musique (ça sent la mythomanie ). The Captain tel James Bond vient de sortir son opus 007 sur lequel on trouve une version "We Will Rock You" aussi hallucinante que la bio de The Captain car entendre la voix de Freddie Mercury sur un instu d'afrofunk qui tend vers la bossa est surprenant mais incroyablement efficace. Je vous ai prévenu !

Hallucinating, it's the adjective for this post. On one side, here is the story of The Captain, son of acaptain, born in the 60s, traveler until he ends in jail to have dredged Queen Elisabeth (!). It would be from his prison that he would make some music (would he be mythomaniac?). The Captain such James Bond has just released his 007 opus on which you find a version of "We Will Rock You" as much hallucinating as the biography of The Captain because to listen to the voice of Freddie Mercury on afrofunk & bossa instrumental parts is as much surprising as incredibly great. I warned you!

Pour les amateurs d'expériences intenses, je vous conseille le nouvel album du fou génial Matthew Herbert. Son nouvel album initulé "There's Me & There's You" est un mélange de jazz, d'électronique et plus étonamment de bruits de préservatifs écrasés, d'allumettes craquées, de cartes bleues découpées, de clous enfoncés sur un cercueil, etc. Je vous avoue ne pas avoir vraiment accroché au The Matthew Herbert Big Band mais la voix de la chanteuse anglaise et inconnue Eska et cette mélodie sous tension de "The Story" est un incroyable morceau qui donne la chair de poule.

For lovers of instense experience, my advice is the new album of the great crazy producer Matthew Herbert. His new LP "There's Me & There's You" is a mix of jazz, electronic music and more suprizing sounds of crushed condoms, torn matches, cut credit cards, nails pushed on a coffin... I must admit that I did not fell in love with the Matthew Herbert Big Band but the voice of the unknown English singer Eska and this melody under pressure of "The Story" is a wonderful track which gives you the creeps.

Enorme mea culpa pour cet oubli car "Don't Go" de Puzique sorti il y a trois mois, a tout pour être un incontournable aux côtés des hymnes dancefloor house et techno de Daft Punk, Vitalic, Laurent Garnier, etc. D'ailleurs qui se cachent derrière Puzique ? Et bien ce sont les allemands, Boys Noize et D.I.M, 2 des producteurs les plus talentueux. On dit bien que l'union fait la force et cela se sent à l'écoute de "Don't Go".

Thousands of excuses for my forget because "Don't Go" of Puzique released 3 months ago, is for sure one of the new dancefloor anthems as the ones of Daft Punk, Vitalic, Laurent Garnier... But who are behing Puzique? Well you have two of the most talented German producers, Boys Noize and D.I.M. We say in French that unity is strength and you can feel it in listening of "Don't Go".

L'influence des années 90 revient en force sous toutes ses formes (bonnes ou mauvaises d'ailleurs) dans la musique électronique actuelle : les beats cheap (mais empreints d'une certaine nostalgie) des années 90-93, ces nappes de synthés, etc. En 98 ou 99, j'avais adoré (j'avoue) le titre "Get Get Down" de Paul Johnson (souvenez-vous du clip). En 2008, c'est Mowgli tout droit sorti de sa jungle qui déboule avec "Pa Po Pon". La ressemblance est troublante mais c'est toujours efficace et j'adore !

The influence of the 90's is coming back under all styles (good and bad) in nowadays electronic music: cheap beats (full of nostalgy) of 90-93 years, keyboards, basslines... In 98 or 99, I loved the track "Get Get Down" of Paul Johnson (remember the music video). In 2008, it's Mowgli fresh out from his jungle who arrives with "Pa Po Pon". The resemblance is disturbing but it is always effective and I like so much!

Il m'aura fallu attendre jusqu'en novembre pour décerner le prix du meilleur album techno de l'année 2008. Le grand vainqueur sans aucune contestation possible est "Music Components" d'Arnaud Rebotini (moitié de Black Strobe depuis seul aux commandes ou encore derrière Zend Avesta, Aleph, Avalanche...). Ce français au look de motard fait rarement comme les autres et même fait l'inverse. Alors que presque toutes les productions actuelles sont issues de laptop, lui a décidé de faire un album qu'avec des instruments bien réels, de vieux synthés, d'anciennes boîtes à rythmes, etc. Comme si les machines avaient engendré chez Arnaud Rebotini une inspiration profonde et divine, chaque morceau mériterait d'être sorti en maxi.

I had to wait until november to give the award of the 2008 best techno album. The winner is without any doubt "Music Components" of Arnaud Rebotini (Black Strobes, Zend Avesta, Aleph, Avalanche...). This French man with a harley davidson style is often at the opposite of the majority. Even if all nowadays productions comes from laptop, he decided to record an album with real instruments, old keyboards, groovebox... As if the machines gave to Arnaud Rebotini a deep and divine inspiration, each trach should be released on EP.

Shazam est un jeune australien que j'avais repéré avec ses remixes de "Sweaty" pour Muscles, "Too Much" pour The Emergency. Et je suis de ceux qui attendent patiemment un nouveau remix de la part de celui que je comparerais à Alan Braxe pour ce groove funky et house qu'il intègre à chaque fois qu'il revisite un morceau. Cette fois-ci, c'est Munk qui passe à la moulinette Shazam avec "Down In L.A.", une version électro-pop sucrée qui vous scotche un sourire à chaque écoute!

Shazam is a young Australian I discovered with his remixes of "Sweaty" for Muscles and "Too Much" for The Emergency. And I am one of those who wait patiently for a new remix from the one I compare with Alan Braxe for this funky and house groove that he puts inside all remixed tracks. This time, it's Munk who has the Shazam's touch on the song "Down In L.A.", a sweet electro-pop version which puts on your face a big smile at each listenning!

C'est certainement la chronique la plus indigeste mais aussi la plus ambitieuse. Car les deux albums dont je vous fais part, sont loin d'être d'un abord des plus faciles les oreilles les plus curieuses et avides de nouvelles sensations. Une nourriture de l'esprit pour moi (et certainement d'autres), un mauvais moment à passer pour d'autres. En un mois sont sortis deux ovnis, deux témoignages d'expérimentations sonores, de mélanges des genres, à coups de plage de plus de 20 minutes. D'un côté, le fameux label allemand de musique classique Grammophon qui sort "Recomposed: Music By Maurice Ravel & Modest Mussorgsky", fruit de la collaboration de deux maîtres Carl Craig, dieu de la techno de Detroit, et Moritz Von Oswald, figure incontournable de la techno minimal berlinoise, qui ont revu, réarrangé, réhabillé et parfois réinventé ces classiques classiques (!). De l'autre côté, le label d'Agoria, inFiné, qui sort une autre collaboration entre Moritz Von Oswald (encore lui) et l'un des pianistes les plus talentueux et les plus ouverts, l'espagnol Francesco Tristano. Sur "Auricle Bio On", le piano samplé en direct remplit l'espace sonore, accompagné de sons électroniques. Oscillateurs, démodulateurs et autres machines donnent ainsi l'écho au piano placé dans la boucle créatrice. Ces deux albums défrichent de nouveaux espaces sonores, abattant les frontières entre les genres. La fraîcheur de la musique produite peut surprendre mais quel plaisir d'entendre de la musique qui est bien loin d'être prévisible, programmée et formatée.

C'est la nouvelle sensation hollandaise, à savoir Rejected derrière lequel se cachent Edwin Oosterwal et Joris Voorn. Leur titre "Let's Go Juno" est une pure bombe de boîte de nuit. A mi-chemin entre la house et la techno, ce morceau est envoûtant et énergique. Un pont parfait entre les deux styles.

Afrique un jour, Afrique toujours ! Alors que les musiques aux sonorités africaines et plus particulièrement le Kuduro explosent dans toute la blogosphère (cf. la mixtape de Radioclit...), je continue à découvrir toutes les facettes de la musique électronique africaine. Et ils sont sacrément nombreux mais aussi talentueux ! Mon dernier coup de coeur vient du Congo, s'appelle Afefe Iku, découvert à travers un remix qu'il a fait pour Radiohead, et vient de sortir un superbe maxi de soul et deep house tribal, "Artifacts Of Pottery Vessels". Le morceau "Mirror Dance" est un bijou de synth-tech soul, au groove incroyable.

Africa for ever! During the explosion of new African music and especially of Kuduro all over the blogosphere (check the mixtape of Radioclit), I continue my discovery of electronic African scene. And what I must admit, it is big and full of talents! My last favourite comes from Congo, names Afefe Iku, discovered foir the first time through his remix of a Radiohead's track. He just released a great EP of tribal soul and deep house music, "Artifacts Of Pottery Vessels". The song "Mirror Dance" is a pure bomb of synth-tech soul with a wonderful groove.

Cette fin d'année 2008 est un vrai délice. Les bonnes sorties tant de maxis que d'albums sont légion. Je dois admettre que la sortie sur Blue Note du nouvel opus de Jazzanova est un sacré événement. Véritables ouvriers de la musique de goût (entre la gestion de leur excellent label Sonar Kollektiv, les émissions de radio, les mixes, les compilations "Secret Love", "Belle & Fou"...), ils ne chôment jamais et ont réussi à donner un successeur à "In Between" sorti en 2002. Que vaut donc "Of All The Things" ? Tout d'abord, il s'agit d'un album qui n'a plus grand chose d'électronique mais qui conserve le goût sucré et élégant propre à Jazzanova. Les six Berlinois s'en sont donné à coeur joie pour réaliser un magnifique album de nu-jazz enregistré avec des musiciens rencontrés un peu partout dans le monde lors de leurs périples. "Of All The Things" est également un disque où les collaborations ne sont pas là pour faire joli et vendre des copies mais plutôt pour apporter du talent et des idées : de Leon Ware (véritable pape et légende de la soul) à Phonte (MC du groupe hip-hop Little Brother) en passant par Dwele (jeune talent de la soul made in Detroit) et Ben Westbeech qui, sur "I Can See", est toujours dans les bons coups (cf. avec DJ Marky, Kraak & Smaak, DJ Die, Clipz...) . Vous l'avez compris, ce deuxième album de Jazzanova est une réussite totale !

The end of year 2008 is really a delight. The good new releases both EP's and LP's are many. I must suppose that the release on Blue Note of the new opus of Jazzanova is a sacred event. Real workers of tasteful music (between the management of their excellent label Sonar Kollektiv, the radio shows, mixes and their compilations " Secret Love", "Belle & Fou"), they never stop working and succeeded in giving a successor in "In Between" come out in 2002. What is therefore worth "Of All The Things"? First of all, it is about an album which is far from electronic music but that keeps sweet and smart taste music typically Jazzanova's touch. The six Berliners must have taken pleasure to accomplish a splendid album of nu-jazz recorded with musicians met everywhere in the world during their journeys. "Of All The Things" is also a disc where collaboration is not there to make pretty and sell copies but rather to bring talent and ideas: from Leon Ware (true pope and legend of soul music) to Phonte (MC of the hip-hop band Little Brother) or Dwele (young talent of the soul made in Detroit) and Ben Westbeech who, on "I Can See", is always in good blows (check his featurings with DJ Marky, Kraak and Smaak, DJ Die, Clipz...). You may have understood , this second album of Jazzanova is a complete success!

Le métissage devrait être perpétuellement célébré ! La magie de la fusion des genres est bien souvent une réussite. Attardons nous sur la musique indienne qui s'immisça dans les styles musicaux à travers Asian Dub Foundation, Fun-Da-Mental, TransGlobal Underground pour l'électro et la techno, Talvin Singh pour la drum'n'bass. Restait au raga de se mélanger au ragga, bref du dubstep à la sauce indo-pakistanaise, mélange de musique indienne, de rythmique hip hop et de dub. Dusk alias Dan Frampton & Blackdown alias Martin Clark sont devenus les premiers à poser les bases de sonorités indiennes, de tablas se fondant dans des sub-basses et breakbeats midtempo. Du très très bon !

Interbreeding should be forever celebrated! The magic of styles fusion is very often a success. Let us delay us on Indian music which interfered in various musical styles across Asian Dub Foundation, Fun-Da-Mental, TransGlobal Underground for electro and techno music, Talvin ingh for drum'n'bass. We miss raga (Indian Music) mixed with ragga & dub, well dubstep with a taste of Indo-Pakistano sounds, mixture of hip hop beats and dub effects... Dusk, aka Dan Frampton, and Blackdown, aka Martin Clark, become the first to lay foundations for Indian tones, of tablas blended in with sub-bass and midtempo breaks. Very very good!

Attention décollage assuré pour l'espace, la planète Mars plus exactement ! Vos tympans vont prendre cher avec l'écrasant, le surpuissant, le découffant, bref le stratosphérique "Mars" de Fake Blood. C'est l'assurance de retourner les dancefloors dans 100% des cas. J'en suis encore tout renversé !

La réalité dépasse parfois les rêves les plus fous. Comment oser imaginer qu'un classique de la house tel que "Promised Land" de Joe Smooth (1989 tout de même) puisse être repris de façon aussi exceptionnelle et même parfait ? La touche soul de Findlay Brown accompagnée d'arrangements délicats et mélangée par la patte de Pilooski qui a augmenté le tempo pour le rendre plus disco offre à "Promised Land", le statut de mythe.

Reality is sometimes better than crazy dreams. How would I imagine one day that a house classic as Joe Smooth's "Promised Land" (1989) could be covered with so much perfection? The soul touch of white singer Findlay Brown accompanied of delicate arrangements and mixed with the touch of Pilooski who makes it more uptempo to be more disco, offers to "Promised Land" the status of myth.

C'est l'histoire d'une rencontre extraordinaire entre Gruff Rhys des Super Furry Animals et de Boom Bip que j'adore. De cette rencontre est né le projet Neon Neon et l'excellent album "Stainless Style", l'un des meilleurs disques de l'année très influencé par les sonorités eighties. Il n'y a qu'à entendre "I Lust U", de l'electroclash pop sucrée qui traite de la prostitution de luxe. La chanteuse Cate Le Bon y est tout simplement merveilleuse.

It's the story of an extraodinary meeting between Gruff Rhys of The Super Furry Animals and Boom Bip I love so much. Then were founded the project Neon Neon and its great album "Stainless Style", one of the best 2008 albums full of 80's influences. Just take a time to listen to "I Lust U", sweet electroclash pop, which is about luxuray prostitution. The singer Cate Le Bon is so wonderful on this track.

Si, comme certains le prétendent, la série 24 Heures avec la présence d'un président américain noir a montré le chemin à l'élection bien réelle d'Obama, alors j'ai espoir avec la série "Flight of the Conchords" d'entendre sur les grands médias de la musique non formatée. Il faut dire qu'avec la chanson "She's So Hot", titre hip-hop ragga sexiste et très clownesque, on se met à croire qu'un Roots Manuva et son "Witness" finisse à une heure de grande écoute. Yes, we can!

J'ai attendu les résultats des élections et la victoire d'Obama pour présenter le nouveau titre de Pirahnahead "Come 2gether", véritable tribute avant l'heure de cet événement qui fera date (on verra cela dans quelques années tout de même). Un morceau de deep house plutôt tribal avec des bouts de discours du nouveau président des USA, entrecoupés de paroles de Dr. Martin Luther King. Un objet collector pour assouvoir la mystification du premier président américain de couleur.

Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas, Drop Music est un label anglais de house. Rien que la liste des artistes présents sur Drop Music incite au respect : Inland Knights, Johnny Fiasco, Joshua Heath, Kinky Movement... Que le temps passe vite car il fête ses 10 ans (je me sens vieux tout d'un coup !) avec une compilation chaudement recommandée "Dust Till Dawn : 10 Years Of Drop Music" mixé par Crazy P. Difficile de choisir un titre mais mon choix se porte sur un morceau représentatif des productions qui sortent de chez Drop Music, "Sex Panther" des Candy Dealers.

For those who don't know, Drop Music is a UK house label. When you discover the artists of Drop Music, totally respect : Inland Knights, Johnny Fiasco, Joshua Heath, Kinky Movement... Time goes too fast because the label is now 10 years old (I feel old now!) with a highly recommanded compilation "Dust Till Dawn : 10 Years Of Drop Music" mixed by Crazy P. It was hard for me to select one track but my choice was a tune which represents the best of Drop Music releases, "Sex Panther" of the Candy Dealers.

Alors qu'il fait un froid de canard à Paris, les anglais de Friendly Fires, sensation pop rock de cet automne, célèbrent la capitale de l'amour. En attendant qu'ils viennent s'y installer (ils l'ont promis), écoutez donc le remix d'Aeroplane, duo belge qui fait des merveilles en tant que remixeurs. A l'image de l'ambivalence de Paris, ce titre est trop rapide pour être downtempo, et trop lent pour passer en soirée, mais il est totalement planant.

While it's f!!!cking freezing in Paris, the English band, Friendly Fires, pop-rock sensation of this autumn, celebrates the capital of love. Until they come to become established here (they promised it), listen therefore to the remix of Aeroplane, Belgian duo who makes marvels as remixers. Just like the ambivalence of Paris, this track is too fast to be downtempo, and too slow for club play, but it is completely gliding.

Junesex est français, en fait sont français car ils sont quatre. Ce groupe d'électro-pop parisien nous sort le grand jeu pour nos soirées d'hiver face à une cheminée aux côtés d'un(e) acolyte allongés sur un tapis moelleux avec en fond sonore un "Worst Than Love". Une belle et agréable nuit d'amour nous tend les bras.

Junesex is French, (correction) are French because they are 4. This Parisian electropop band presents a wonderful game for our winter nights in front of a fireplace being sides of a lover, lying down on a soft carpet with as a music background, a "Worst Than Love". A beautiful and sweet love night reachs out us.

Gabriella Cilmi est australienne, jeune (18 ans), plutôt mignonne ! A l'opposé de Amy Winehouse, elle est saine et simple mais partage avec la diva déséquilibrée anglaise mais aussi Emiliana Torrini, un timbre de voix plein d'émotions. "Sweet About Me", son dernier single, est un tube en puissance, léger et acidulé.

Gabriella Cilmi is Australian, young (18 years old), really beautiful ! At the inverse of Amy Winehoyse, she is "safe" and simple but share with the English drugged diva but also Emiliana Torrini, a great voice full of emotions. "Sweet About Me", her last single, is a hit, also light and sweet.

Vous connaissiez certainement les productions 8bits issues des sons de jeu vidéo des années 80 et 90 (notamment Nintendo). Avec le morceau du MC et producteur anglais Lotek, leader du groupe (défunt ?) Lotek Hifi, place à l'ère moderne où ce sont tous les sons, jingles, musiques que nous retrouvons dans Windows. "Ctrl Alt Del", nom du morceau, semble dès la première écoute familier, logique me direz-vous ! C'est aussi drôle que bon. Quand paroles et instrumentaux nous parlent de notre quotidien...

L'évangélisation continue avec un nouvel EP de The Count & Sinden, "Hardcore Girls" sur lequel figure Rye Rye, rappeuse américaine connue pour son featuring du morceau de DJ Blaqstarr "Shake It To The Ground". Impossible de résister à sa voix d'adolescente répétant à tue tête "Hardcore Girls" soutenue par une association basse-break typiquement Fidget.

Le vaillants new-yorkais The Rapture viennent de nous gâter avec une "K7 Tapes". Un mix pour fêter l'amour qu'ils ont pour la musique de la fin des années 70 et début des années 80 avec tout de même quelques tracks d'aujourd'hui pour ne pas tomber dans la totale nostalgie. Parmi les pépites, un morceau que je ne connaissais pas et qui me hante depuis la première écoute "I'm An Indian Too" de Don Armando's Second Avenue Rumba Band, entre disco-funk et générique de dessin animé. Kitsch pour certains, culte pour d'autres !

The NYC great band, The Rapture, give us a nice gift with a "K7 Tapes". A mix to celebrate their love of 70's and 80's music with too some nowadays tracks not to be so nostalgic. In all these musical nuggets, one song I did not know but can't live without it, "I'm An Indian Too" of Don Armando's Second Avenue Rumba Band, between disco-funk and TV cartoon credits. Cela fait déjà un certain temps que je mets sur ce blog en avant une influence africaine grandissante dans la musique occidentale. Et ce n'est pas prêt de s'arrêter avec la nouvelle sensation de Pretoria, Elvis Maswanganyi aussi appelé DJ Mujava. Celui qui a grandi dans un township rempli de serials killers, a des sons pleins la tête qu'il matérialise grâce à un ordinateur offert par son frère. Pour l'anecdote, le bouche à l'oreille est assuré par les taxis (véridique !) puis les "communitys stations", radios locales sud-africaines. Toute la ville vit au son de DJ Mujava ! Puis sa musique s'étend à d'autres régions pour finir par être repéré par le label électronique Warp qui sort une bombe minimale "Township Funk". La basse rappelle celles de Laurent Garnier, le beat est 100% made in africa quoique Mia, Diplo, Radioclit ont commencé à utiliser ce type de rythmiques. Quant au clip, c'est une ghetto party avec une version africaine de danseurs tecktonik !

For couple of months, I have been speaking about a bigger and bigger african influence in occidental musical scene. And it won't stop with the new sensation of Pretoria, Elvis Maswanganyi also named DJ Mujava. He grew up in a township full of serials killers but he always dreamed about sounds, music... Thanks to a computer offered by his brother, DJ Mujava started productions and the buzz started with the taxis cabs which played his tracks, then the "communitys radio stations". All the town with DJ Mujava's sounds! Then his music was found by the electronic UK label Warp which releases "Township Funk", a pure minimal bomb. The bassline reminds me the ones of Laurent Garnier, the beat is 100% made in africa even if Mia,, Diplo or Diplo started to use this kind of rythms. The music video is a ghetto party with an african version of tecktonik dancers!

Je viens d'apprendre un bien triste nouvelle, le chanteur jamaicain Alton Ellis est mort à Londres le week-end dernier. Il restera à toujours lié au rocksteady avec son groupe The Flames et au reggae-soul avec selon moi la plus belle voix du reggae avec Horace Andy.

I just know a sad news, the Jamaican singer Alton Ellis is dead in London last week-end. He will forever be associated to rocksteady with his band The Flames and reggae-soul music. He had according to me the most beautiful voice of reggae (with Horace Andy).
