Dave Spoon fait partie des artistes electro-house dont je scrute la moindre de ses sorties. Depuis sa rencontre avec Marc Knight en 2004, cet anglais s'est construit une réputation incroyable devenant un producteur incontournable travaillant sur différents labels dont Toolroom Records, Stealth Records, Juicy ou encore Big Love. Simon Neale de son vrai nom est tombé dans la musique gamin grâce à son père qui l'incite à jouer de différents instruments dont la trompette.
Mais dès 1987 c'est la musique électronique qui l'intéresse : les TB303, Akai S950, Atari ST1040 autant que Kevin Saunderson et autres idoles house et techno. C'est surtout Liam Howlett de Prodigy qui est un héros pour Dave Spoon qui le rencontra en 1993 et fut pris sous son aile. C'est certainement pour cela que les productions de Dave Spoon ont toujours une référence aux travaux de la tête pensante de Prodigy, ces basses synthétiques, ces beats mi-breakbeat mi-techno énergisants... Ses nombreux remixes de Dizzee Rascal , de Stretch & Vern , Funkagenda, de Richard Grey pour ne citer qu'eux, sont des bijoux pour ornementer les parties, ses propres productions tels que "At Night", "Outside", "Won't Do It Again" s'avèrent systématiquement évidents, une adhésion rapide et forcée qui vous habite dès les secondes. Pour notre bonheur, espéronsque l'inspiration ne quitte pas Dave Spoon.
Le nouveau EP de Dave Spoon est une nouvelle bombe. "Bad Girl (At Night)" sur lequelle rappe et chante Lisa Maffia, montre l'énorme progression du londonien pour sortir des titres imparables dans la lignée des meilleurs titres de Prodigy et Groove Armada dont la ressemblance avec "Get Down" est flagrante.
