Amon Tobin, brésilien installé au Canada, est une figure de la musique contemporaine incontournable. Toujours tourné vers l'innovation (premier artiste à adopter le système Final Scratch), il est en perpétuelle recherche tel un radar qui scrute tout son environnement. Aussi à l'aise dans les registres hip-hop qu'electronica ou drum & bass, son univers est reconnaissable parmi mille. L'unicité n'a pas de valeur !
Signé chez Ninja Tune qui lui laisse carte blanche, il a oscillé dans divers genres dont l'expérimental. Après avoir signé la bande son culte du jeu vidéo "Splinter Cell", Amon Tobin revient avec un septième album "Foley Room" qui pousse encore plus loin une expérimention somme toute personnelle et organique. Il est parti armé d'un micro enregistré un maximum de sons, de sonorités que la vie sur Terre peut nous proposer. Echantillonnant des chats bouffant des rats, des moteurs, de l'eau qui coule, cet orfèvre du sampler a su s'entourer de musiciens (Kronos Quarter, l'harpiste Saral Page) qui ajoutent une forme supplémentaire à ses travaux de laboratoire. L'album est dur d'accès, imposant une écoute attentive et du temps pour profiter de cette oeuvre qui sortira au printemps 2007.
Il n'en demeure pas moins que certains morceaux rappellent l'excellence de composition et de production qu'Amon Tobin cultive. "At The End Of The Day" est tout simplement magistral : démarrage en douceur avec une douce mélodie au piano auquel se rajoute une armada de violons arabisants accompagnés d'un beat monstrueux typique du brésilien. Grandiose !

After having composed the soundtrack of the video game “Splinter Cell”, Amon Tobin returns with a seventh album “Foley Room” which pushes even further altogether personal and organic experimention. He walked with a microphone recordind a maximum of sounds, sonorities which the life on Earth can offer to us. Sampling cats puffing out of the rats, engines, water which runs, this sampler goldsmith invites some musicians (Kronos Quartet, the harpist Saral Page) who add an new form to his laboratory work. The album is hard access, imposing an attentive listening and time to benefit from this work which will be released in spring 2007.
It does not remain about it less than some tracks point out the excellence of composition and production that Amon Tobin cultivates. “At The End Of The Day” is simply masterly : starting carefully with a soft piano melody to which a armada is added Arabists violins accompanied by an enormous break typical of the Brazilian guy. Impressive!
