Grooveman Spot est un DJ japonais au parcours classique. Il vient du nord du Japon et a grandi à Sendai exactement avec un autre grand DJ japonais qu'est DJ Mitsu. Compétition entre eux ou entraide, la ressemblance est saisissante au point d'avoir du mal à les dissocier tant ils sont tous les deux respectés pour leur talent de beatmaker.
Grooveman Spot est malgré tout un suiveur, DJ Mitsu ayant "dégaîné" avant lui. C'est justement grâce à un remix d'un morceau de DJ Mitsu The Beats & Fresh Air que Grooveman Spot s'est fait remarqué. Il débarque avec un premier album dont on pourrait croire que la paternité en revient à DJ Mitsu. Même style de pochette ou presque, même style de titres ou presque, même invités ou presque ! Et surtout l'écoute ne trahit pas l'allusion qui en devient presque trop forte. Grooveman Spot n'en demeure pas moins un producteur résolument doué, dont les recherches au plus profond des catalogues de jazz et de soul offrent des moments de grand plaisir auditif. Son album "Eternal Development" est varié, frais, sans déchets et totalement fidèle au style made in japan. Ecouter des titres comme "Levitation", "Maintain" ou encore "Turn It Up" tel un bonbon, vous offrira ce goût sucré d'un jazz ou d'une nu-soul fricottant avec l’électro. Néanmoins et malgré un casting séduisant (J*Davey, M.E.D…), Grooveman Spot tout en démontrant un certain talent, devra s'émanciper pour percer.
"Hadesugiru" est sans aucune contestation possible le meilleur titre de l'album. Ambiance hip-hop des années 90 période The Roots, totalement hypnotique avec une boucle de synthé fantastique. A cela s'ajoute la voix rocailleuse de Count Bass D qui depuis plus de 10 ans est dans le hip-hop jouissant d'une réputation excellente dans la scène underground. Un moment de pur plaisir !
Grooveman Spot is a Japanese DJ in a pure traditional style. He comes from the north of Japan and grew in Sendai with another famous Japanese DJ, DJ Mitsu. He arrives with a first album which one could accept that paternity could be DJ Mitsu's one. Same artwork or almost, even same titles or almost, same featurings or almost ! And listening does not especially betray the allusion which becomes almost too strong about Grooveman Spot. He does not remain about a huge talent of producing, whose research in the deepest catalogues of jazz and soul music offers moments of great auditive pleasure. His album “Eternal Development” is varied, fresh, without waste and completely faithful to a "made in Japan" style. To listen to tunes such as “Levitation”, “Maintain” or “Turn It Up” is such a candy, will offer to you this sweetened taste of a jazz or nu-soul tainted of electro music. Nevertheless and in spite of a tempting casting (J*Davey, M.E.D…), Grooveman Spot while showing a certain talent, will owe to dissociate from DJ Mitsu or Kentaro in order to bore.
“Hadesugiru” is without any doubt the best track of the album. A typical hip-hop atmosphear from the Nineties, reminding The Roots, a completely hypnotic tunne with a fantastic piano loop. And add the rocky voice of Count Bass D who has been for more than 10 years in hip-hop having an excellent reputation in the scene underground. One moment of pure pleasure!
