Loka est un duo de Liverpool composé de Karl Webb and Mark Kyriacou. Après une apparition remarquée sur les mythiques compilations "Xen Cuts" de Ninja Tune sorties en 2000, rien à l'exception d'un EP sorti en 2004 "Beginningless" et quelques remixes, de quoi faire monter le buzz autour des 2 anglais. Révélation ou déception ?
La réponse : révélation. Cela fait des années en fait qu'il sont enfermés dans leur studio Merseyside s'amusant à mélanger l'esprit du jam d'un Miles Davis aux machines. Dans la mouvance des Cinematic Orchestra (à quand le prochain album ?) avec qui Loka partage une passion pour les musiques de films des années 60 et 70, leur premier album "Fire Sheperds" est intemporel donnant le sentiment de mélanger les époques et les expériences où les rythmes cessent d'être génériques pour devenir juste une catalyseur à émotion desservies par des cascades d'instruments à corde. Pour une fois qu'un album si attendu est à la hauteur, je ne peux pas m'empêcher d'être dithyrambique.
Le titre "Meet Dad" est un titre instrumental qui rappellera à certains "Ford Mustang" de Serge Gainsbourg. Un titre groovy où guitare wah-wah et orgue affrontent une horde de violons soutenue par un beat jazzy entraînant. Classe et exquis !

So Revelation or disappointment ?
The answer is for sure revelation : for years Loka has shutted away in their Merseyside studio having fun to mix the spirit of the jam of Davis Miles with machines. In the style of Cinematic Orchestra (when is the next album ?) with who Loka shares a passion for the movies soundtracks of the Sixties and Seventies, their first album "Sheperds Fire" is timeless, giving the feeling to mix periods and experiments where the beats cease being generic to become a catalyst of emotions served by cascades of string instruments. Most of the time the high awaited albums are up to them but here is not the case. An exception which allom me to be dithyrambic.
The track "Meet Dad" is instrumental which will reminds for some people "Ford Mustang" of Serge Gainsbourg. A groovy track where a wah-wah guitar and an organ face a horde of violins supported by a uptempo jazzy beat. Exquisite luxury!
