Clutchy Hopkins est un américain qui ressemble à un vétéran de la guerre du Vietnam, un illuminé qui se présente comme le fils d'un ingénieur de la Motown mais surtout un musicien multi-instrumentiste formidable. Peu connu, son oeuvre n'en demeure pas moins captivante. C'est d'ailleurs grâce aux MCs MF Doom et Dudley Perkins qui l'ont samplé ou collaboré que j'avais découvert ce personnage du paysage musical.
D'un âge avancé, Clutch Hopkins délivre une biographie sonore intitulée "The Life Of Clutchy Hopkins". Un album instrumental qui semble avoir été enregistré en live, un recueil de blues, rock psychédélique, de musique hippie teintée de sonorités indiennes. A l'écoute, j'étais accaparé par son jeu où ses instruments donnent l'impression de chanter. Les chansons 1 (en écoute) et 3 raviront les fans de Gainsbourg et de l'album "Melody Nelson".
Clutchy Hopkins is an American who looks like a veteran of the Vietnam War, an crazy guy presenting himself as the son of a Motown engineer, a musician but also a great multi-instrumentalist. Relatively unknown, his work is nonetheless captivating. It was thanks to the MCs MF Doom and Dudley Perkins who have sampled or collaborated with, that I discovered this figure of the musical landscape.
Old, Clutch Hopkins delivers a sound biography entitled "The Life Of Clutchy Hopkins". An instrumental album, which appears to be recorded in a live session, a collection of blues, rock, psychedelic and hippie music tinged with Indian atmosphear. During my listening, I was captivated by an aspect : his instruments play gives the impression of singing. Songs 1 and 3 would delight fans of Gainsbourg and the album "Melody Nelson."
