Attention mélange des genres, cocktail détonnant en vue. La sous-division du label allemand Studio k7, à savoir Rapster Records, a une actualité 2006 plutôt chargée. Un nouvel album de Five Deez, "Kommunicator", une nouvelle compilation de remixes de Roy Ayers, le plus funky des jazzmen ou peut-être l'inverse, mais surtout la sortie en avril de "Exit Music : Songs With Radio Heads", véritable tribute dédié au groupe d'Oxford, Radiohead.
L'idée est saugrenue surtout lorsque l'on découvre la liste des artistes qui y participent. RJD2 (Airbag), Sa-Ra (In Limbo), Matthew Herbert (Nice Dream), The Bad Plus (Karma Police) ou encore Meshell Ndegeocello (The National Anthem) entre autre réinterprètent avec succès leur titre préféré de Radiohead. Ils illustrent à la perfection le panel si large de leur audience qui démontre l'influence majeure de ce que l'on peut appeler un groupe culte au même titre que Pink Floyd ou les Beatles. Les 10 titres revisités sont de vrais bijoux avec une mention particulière pour Mark Ronson avec "Just", reprise très soul version seventies où les guitares de Greenwood et Ed O'Brien sont remplacées par une trompette et un saxophone.
Le meilleur reste à découvrir avec les incontournables Cinematic Orchestra, issus de Ninja Tune. Tout ce qu'ils touchent se transforment en or. Même si mon objectivité est loin d'être parfaite vu mon respect pour eux et plus encore, ce collectif de jazz est précieux et les retrouver après une si longue absence sur ce tribute reste une surprise qui ne fait que décupler le plaisir d'entendre ce jazz inspiré de rock. Bref un résultat brilliant, vraiment impressionnant en plus d'être étonnant à l'image de cet album. A ne pas manquer !

The idea seems ludicrous especially when you discover the list of the artists who take part in it. RJD2 (Airbag), Sa-Ra (In Limbo), Matthew Herbert (Nice Dream), The Bad More (Karma Police) or Meshell Ndegeocello (The National Anthem) amongst other one reinterpret successfully their preferred track of Radiohead. They illustrate perfectly the different varieties of listeners, which show the major influence of what we can call a worship band as well as Pink Floyd or the Beatles. The 10 revisited songs are truths jewels with a particular mention for Mark Jonson with "Just", very soul version styling seventies where the guitars of Greenwood and Ed O'Brien are replaced by a trumpet and a saxophone. For those who visited my blog, they could have listened to this track on my last Radio session.
But the best is still to be discovered with circumvent Cinematic Orchestrated, resulting from Ninja Tune. All that they touch become into gold. Even if my objectivity is far from being perfect considering my respect and love for them , this collective of jazz is precious and to listen to them after a so long absence is a surprise which increases the pleasure of hearing this jazz inspired of rock'n'roll. In short a brilliant result, really impressive in addition to be astonishing as this tribute. Don't miss it !
