Sir 'Smurf' Little, pseudo qui rappelle le dessin animé du même nom, a fini par quitter son chapeau blanc en laine (d'où ce surnom). En revanche il persévère sur la scène hip-hop UK depuis 2000 où il débuta avec Lewis Parker, alors sur le défunt label Melankolic de Massive Attack. A l'époque il rencontre Jehst et particite à plusieurs reprises au The Homegrown Bless the Mic Show. Il parfait son style en écumant les clubs de Londres.
Et très prochainement il sortira son premier album "Myalpha" sur YNR Productions derrière qui se cache Jehst. C'est justement avec lui et L.G. que Sir 'Smurf' Little enregistre cet album. C'est dans un studio tout fraichement monté par Jehst, Arkham Asylum Studio dont, l'on espère, les productions seront dignes du meilleur du hip-hop anglais. 3 mois de travail acharnés pour une sortie attendue à la rentrée. En attendant contentons-nous de la compilation que vient sortir Jehst, "Undeworld Epics". Une bande-son rap qui m'a agréablement surpris, des instrus parfois fantastiques comme dans "Watching" ou "Dunya", des vocaux toujours de qualité avec Verb T, Asaviour dont j'ai fait une chronique, ou encore Rodney P. C'est mon coup de coeur de l'été !
Je reviens sur MC 'Smurf' car son morceau "Listen" est celui que mon Ipod aura sélectionné et encore et encore. Oui c'est à "écouter", un titre où la boucle musicale nous renvoie du côté des Blackalicious à leurs débuts, avec un son de pur acid-jazz. C'est gai et prenant, c'est juste et simple, c'est bien, point !
Sir “Smurf” Little, nickname which points out the cartoon of the same name, ended up taking off his white wool hat (that's the reason of his nickname). On the other hand he has persevered on UK hip-hop scene since 2000 when he started with Lewis Parker, then on the dead label Melankolic of Massive Attack. At the time he met Jehst and apperaed many times on several occasions in The Homegrown Bless the Mic Show. he worked his style by foaming the clubs of London.

While waiting we get satisfation with the compilation that Jehst has just launched, “Undeworld Epics”. A rap soundtrack which made me a good surprise, with sometimes fantastic instrumentals samples as in “Watching” or “Dunya”, of always excellent vocal of quality with Verb T, Asaviour of who I wrote a review, or Rodney P. It is my blow of heart of the summer!
I come back on MC “Smurf” because his track “Listen” is that which my Ipod has selected and more and more. Yes it is to “listen”, a song with a musical loop which reminds us the Blackalicious at their beginnings, with a sound of pure acid-jazz. It is merry and fascinating, it is right and simple, it is well, point!
