J'avais déjà chroniqué le titre "Tonight" de Yuksek, playlisté dans un de mes mixes la version des The Bewitched Hands On The Top Of Our Heads. J'en remets une dernière couche avec la reprise en douce pop électro-analogique par Stereo Lab Cela donne une vidéo simplissime et touchante en noir et blanc.
I had already wrote a review about the track "Tonight" of Yuksek, playlisted in one of my mix, the version of The Bewitched Hands On The Top Of Our Heads. One more time about "Tonight" with an another cover, sweet electro-analogical pop version, made by Stereo Lab. The result: a simple, personal, delicious black'n white video. I love it!
Pour ceux de ma génération (1975-1980), Jess & Crabbe devraient rappeler quelques souvenirs. Ces deux français organisaient des soirées incroyables à Paris (au Divan du Monde, au Gibus...) et surtout ils avaient sorti un titre French Touch dont je ne me suis jamais lassé, "The Big Booya". Et comme le maxi est réédité, qu'il n'a pas pris une ride, c'est l'occasion de le redécouvrir.
For those of my generation (1975-1980), Jess & Crabbe shounld remind you some old souvenirs. These two French guys organized incredible parties in Paris (at Divan Du Monde, at Gibus...) and the released an anthem track I never fed up, "The Big Booya". Because of the reedition of the EP, because it's still so good to listen to it, I wrote this post!
Petit détour par la Jamaique avec un EP que je vous recommande, celui du duo Henry & Louis que je suis depuis tout petit. Si, si, c'est véridique ! Cette fois-ci, on retrouve "Rise Up" avec Steve Harper au micro et Rob Smith (de Smith & Mighty) aux manettes de ce remix qui sent bon le dub, la grosse ligne de basse ronflante, des échos dans tous les sens. Rise Up !!!
Small bend by Jamaica with an EP I recommend you, the new of of the duet Henry & Louis whom I followed since I'm young. Yes it's true! This time, we get "Rise Up" with Steve Harper at the microphone and Rob Smith (from Smith & Mighty) at the production of this remix which smells good dub, the big bassline and reverb everywhere. Rise Up!!!
Peu nombreux sont les artistes notamment dans la musique électronique à traverser les décennies. Cela relève même de l'exploit. Le mythe vivant, Kevin Saunderson, est de ceux là. Le producteur de techno de Detroit fait parler lui avec une indispensable double compilation de remixes "History Elevate". D'un côté des remixes qu'il a fait (Cerrone, Pet Shop Boys, Hercules And Love Affair, Simian Mobile Disco...), de l'autre des remixes de ses propres morceaux par de grands producteurs (Luciano, Simian Mobile Disco, Joris Voorn, Loco Dice...), cela donne un ensemble hétérogène et cohérent, bien agréable pour nos tympans. J'en profite pour vous faire découvrir l'un de ses pseudos E-Dancer qui avait donné lieu à un superbe morceau “World Of Deep”, techno made in Detroit dans la plus belle des traditions.
Less are artists particulary in electronic music to cross the decades. It recovers even from an exception. The alive myth, Kevin Saunderson, is one of those. The producer of techno made in Detroit has just released an essential double compilation of remixes, "History Elevate". On one side, remixes he did (Cerrone, Pet Shop Boys, Hercule & Love Affair, Simian Mobile Disco...), on the other side remixes of his own tracks made by great producers (Luciano, Simian Mobile Disco, Joris Voorn, Loco Dice...), the result is an heterogeneous, coherent and very pleasant set for our eardrums. I profit from it to discover to you one of his nicknames, E-Dancer which had given place to a magnificent tune "World Of Deep", traditional Detroit techno song.
Cela me trottait depuis pas mal de temps et j'ai fini par réaliser un mix dédié au continent africain. De nouveaux styles musicaux festifs ont vu le jour comme le kwaito ou le kuduro tandis que des artistes et producteurs locaux ont le talent de composer des morceaux de house, de techno et d'électro dignes de passer sur les dancefloors européens. Touche rythmique tribale, accents africains, instruments locaux, inspiration de la brousse et savane, je vous propose de découvrir les ambiances musicales du berceau de l'humanité.
I thought about it since quite a lot of time and I just finished a mix dedicated to the African continent. New festive musical styles were born as the kwaito or the kuduro whereas local artists and producers have the talent to compose tracks of house music, techno music and electro music deserving playing on European dancefloors. Tribal beats, African accents, typical local instruments, inspiration of the bush, I suggest you discovering the musical atmospheres of the cradle of humanity.
Je suis tombé par hasard sur le titre "Baditude", fruit de la collaboration de Dave Spoon, Paul Harris et Sam Obernik. Il est sorti l'été dernier mais je ne l'avais jamais entendu (Suis-je passé à côté ?). Pourtant ça aurait dû être un carton. Ultra commercial avec cette boucle de guitare espagnole, la voix sexy de la jolie demoiselle mais peu m'importe, j'assume !
I found by chance on the track "Baditude", the fruit of the collaboration of Dave Spoon, Paul Harris and Sam Obernik. It came out last summer but I had never heard it before. Nevertheless that should have been a hit. Totally mainstreamwith this loop of spanish guitar, the sexy voice of an attractive young lady but I don't care, I assume it!
Quel plaisir de retrouver les deux frères Robin et Simon qui ont fondé il y a 15 ans Faze Action ! Leur nom ne vous dit pas forcément grand chose et pourtant ils sont incontournables. Leurs productions et leurs edits disco house sont des assurances "Faire Danser", totalement imparables. Et leur nouveau maxi "Good Lovin' " perpétue la tradition (bientôt le panthéon pour Faze Action ?). La version Special Disco Mix est d'un groove électro incroyable entre Cerrone et le funk des années 80.
What a pleasure to listen to new tracks of brothers Robin and Simon who founded 15 years ago Faze Action! Their name does not say to you necessarily much and nevertheless they are inescapable. Their disco-house productions and edits are an insurance "Make Dancing", totally unstoppable. And their new EP " Good Lovin ' " immortalizes the tradition (soon the hall of fame for Faze Action?). The Special Disco Mix versionhas an incredible electo groove between Cerrone and the eighties funk.
Serait-ce la grande découverte de 2009 ? Possible quand on découvre le mini-album du hollandais Tom Trago, "Voyage Direct". Les 7 titres sont des odes électroniques brassant l'héritage techno de Detroit (Theo Parrish et Moodymann), de la house notamment française (Alan Braxe et Fred Falke). Celui qui fait partie du courant "New School Of Amsterdam producers", a un énorme potentiel. A suivre de près.

Nom de code : The Juan MacLean, producteur new yorkais qui sort son second album "The Future Will Come", avec la participation vocale de Nancy Whang, claviériste de LCD Soundsystem mais aussi l'ancien batteur de !!!, Jerry Fuchs, et deux membres d'Holy Ghost, Nick Millhiser et Alex Frankel. Et c'est une immense réussite, un album d'électro-pop aux accents disco et pleine de vibrations très Giorgio Moroder. Et quand le titre "One Day" est remixé par le petit surdoué français Surkin, c'est divin.

Codename: The Juan MacLean, a new-yorker producer who releases out his second LP "The Future Will Come", with the vocal participation of Nancy Whang, keyboard player of LCD Soundsystem but also the former drummer of !!!, Jerry Fuchs, and two members of Holy Ghost, Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel. And it is an huge success, an album of electro-pop with disco accents and full of Giorgio Moroder's vibrations. And when the track "One Day" is remixed by the small French gifted child, Surkin, it's pure pleasure.
Nat King Cole, de son vrai nom Nathaniel Adams Coles, est un des plus grands crooners aux côtés des Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin ou encore Paul Anka. Ce pianiste de jazz a longtemps été hésitant dans son rôle comme chanteur continuant de pratiquer le piano. Un comble tout de même quand vous entendez sa voix et aujourd'hui un hommage avec la sortie de "Re: Generations", album de reprises qui mélange sa voix et quelques célébrités soit au micro soit à la production : The Roots, Nas, Bebel Gilberto, Cut Chemist... Nat King Cole, of his real name Nathaniel Adam Coles, is one of the biggest crooners beside Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin or Paul Anka. This jazz pianist was hesitating for a long time in his role as singer continuing to practise the piano. Really amazing when you listen to his voice and today a tribute with the release of "Re: Generations", album of covers which mix his voice and some celebrities either at the microphone or at the production: The Roots, Nas, Bebel Gilberto, Cut Chemist... By way of bait, I selected for you the new version of "Lush Life" produced by Cee-Lo Green, singer of Gnarls Barkley.
Je serai aujourd'hui au Pili Pili pour un mix "Paradise Garage", 100% de funk & disco & house. Un hommage à Larry Levan, David Mancuso, Frankie Knuckles & François K, etc.
Est-ce les rayons de soleil qui se multiplient ces derniers jours, une envie soudaine ou une succession de bonnes sorties vinyls ? Peut-être que ce sont toutes ces raisons qui m'amènent à écouter beaucoup de house, la version originale, celle au rythme minimal, à la ligne de basse funky accompagnée de voix (surtout féminine). C'est d'ailleurs grâce à celle de Marlene Rodrigues dont le timbre est vibrant comme pas deux, que j'ai découvert le dernier morceau du duo français Wumm, "My Roots Of House". Les racines de la house sont bien présentes comme le stipule le titre et le remix Logan Dataspirit y rajoute une touche planante du meilleur goût.
Is it because of sunbeams we get these last days, a sudden envy or a succession of good EP releases? Maybe it's all these reasons which bring me to listen to house music, the original version, the one with minimal beats, with funky basslines accompanied with voice (especially of women). It is moreover thanks to the voice of Marlene Rodrigues who has a vibrating vocal power, that I discovered the last track of the French duet, Wumm, "My Roots Of House". The roots of house music are really present as the title stipulates it and the remix Logan Dataspirit adds a space touch, really tastefull.
Un billet bref pour écouter plus rapidement un track qu'il me faut absolument. Le producteur PRZTZ est un brésilien basé à Sao Paulo mais signé sur le label allemand Shaker Plates Records. Je ne connais pas ses morceaux sauf le récent "Madly Madly" qui est une bombe. Cette guitare slappée, ce synthé ronronnant associés à un sample vocal de Jim Morrisson "Love Her Madly" et à un beat funky house énergisant.
A brief note to listen quickly a track which I need absolutely. The producer PRZTZ is a Brazilian man based in Sao Paulo but signed on the German label Shaker Plates Records. I do not know his tunes except the recent "Madly Madly" which is a pure bomb. This slapped guitar, this purring keyboard associated with Jim Morrisson's vocal sample "Love Her Madly" and an excellent energizing funky house beat.
J'adore un fascination pour les diggers, ces passionnés qui passent leur temps à chiner toutes les boutiques de vinyls du monde. Ces chercheurs d'or musical sont investis d'une mission : rendre hommage à ces artistes, ces morceaux oubliés (parfois trop vite). Parmi ceux-ci, il y a un certain 6th Borough Project qui était chargé par Craig Smith et The Revenge d'explorer les bacs à vinyls de funk et disco. Sa collection semble immense et son nouvel opus est une merveille. "Planets (The Revenge Lost Groove)" est une version disco spéciale du morceau Jisco. Les fans des productions de Soundstream s'y retrouveront, les autres ressentiront l'envie de danser coiffés en afro et habillé d'un pantalon patte d'éléphant. Groovy !
I am fascinated by diggers, these passionates who spend time mocking all music shops of the world. These musical gold-diggers are invested with a mission: honour these forgotten artists and tunes (sometimes too quickly). Among these, there is certain 6th Borough Project who was in charge by Craig Smith and The Revenge of investigating all vinyls of funk and disco. His collection seems immense and his new opus is a masterpiece. "Planets (The Revenge Lost Groove)" is a special disco version of the Jisco's nugget track. The fans of Soundstream productions will like it for sure, the others will feel the urge to dance, wearing flared trousers and an afro headgear. Let's groove!
