David Banner est certainement le seul MC connu à venir du Mississippi à ma connaissance. Dans la lignée de toute la scène dirty south d'Atlanta, de la Nouvelle-Orléans et Memphis, il vient de sortir son quatrième album "Certified".
Si l'album comprend son lot de morceaux typiquement sudistes ("Treat Like Me"), le MC s'attaque également au rock sur "Crossroads", et "Ain't Got Nothing" avec sa version anglaise (featurings de Rodney P et Durrty Goodz). Un peu de crunk brutal, de la subtilité comme sur "Ridin’" et une liste d'invités intéressante, gageur d'un album de hip-hop réussi mais encore loin d'atteindre le panthéon.
Reste à faire tourner en boucle "Play". Un instru épuré languissant, mélange du "Drop It Like It's Hot" de Snoop Dogg et de "Whisper Song" de Ying Yang Twins, des paroles explicites et pour la première fois, un MC qui rappe en chuchotant. Une invitation au sexe sans détour.

A little of crunk, a little of subtlety as on “Ridin'” and an interesting list of guests, gagor of an hip-hop album succeeded but still far from reaching the Hall of Fame.
But “Play” in repeat. A languid purified instrumental, mix of “Drop It Like It's Hot” of Snoop Dogg and “Whisper Song” of Ying Yang Twins, some explicit words and for the first time, a MC which raps while whispering. An hot track, an explicit sex invitation.
