Bjork est une icone, un spécimen, un phénomène et tout simplement une artiste. Sa voix, ses pulsions d'explorations contemporaines font d'elle une chanteuse singulière, militante et il faut bien le dire dérangée. Au delà du personnage, Bjork est toujours restée fidèle à elle-même protégeant sa liberté d'expression et de composition délaissant les on-dit.
"Volta", son sixième album sort tout juste avec 10 morceaux écrits et produits par elle-même, s'entourant tout de même de quelques collaborateurs tels que Timbaland, Antony Hegarty (Antony & The Johnsons), Toumani Diabate et Konono, artistes africains. Le côté world est largement présent sur "Volta" où l'on retrouve ces rythmes transcendants, des couleurs tant musicales que visuelles, rapprochant ce dernier album à son tout premier "Debut". Contrairement à "Vespertine" et "Medùlla", ses albums précédents, "Volta" est plus attiré par le physique que conceptuel, prenant quelques distances avec l'esprit et l'intellect. Ce n'est pas pour autant que l'artiste islandaise donne le commercial. Bjork mélange, brasse lors de ce nouveau voyage musical revenant aux origines de l'humanité. "Volta" mérite plusieurs écoutes pour découvrir la saisissante réussite d'une machine à créer des sensations primitives et même guerrières comme sur "Earth Intruders", en référence au tsunami , "Vertebrae By Vertebrae", morceau sur la revanche prise par Mère Nature, ou encore "Declare Independence".
Timbaland est un fan de Bjork depuis ses débuts. Et l'on ressent sur "Innocence" l'inspiration des premiers morceaux de Bjork. Un beat industriel et syncopé, des sonorités futurisques et oppressantes et la fantastique voix de l'Islandaise passée aux filtres utilisés il y a 15 ans sur "Debut". Un retour aux sources (des origines...).

“Volta”, her sixth album has just released with 10 tracks composed and producted by herself, being surrounded of some great collaborators such as Timbaland, Antony Hegarty (Antony & The Johnsons), Toumani Diabate and Konono, African artists. The world music influence is largely present on “Volta” with transcendent beats, colors as well musical as visual, bringing closer this last album at her first one “Debut”. Contrary to “Vespertine” and “Medùlla”, her preceding albums, “Volta” is attracted more by physical than conceptual, taking some distances with spirit and intellect. It doesn't mean the Icelandic artist presents an mainstream album. Bjork mixes, brews during this new musical trip returning at the origins of humanity (Africa). “Volta” deserves several listenings to discover seizing success of a machine to create primitive feelings and even warlike feelings as on “Earth Intruders”, in reference to the tsunami, “Vertebrae By Vertebrae”, a tune about the revenge of Mother Nature, or “Declare Independence”.
Timbaland is a fan of Bjork since her beginnings. And you will recognize on “Innocence” the inspiration of tracks on ther first album. A syncopated and industrial beat, futuristic and oppressive sonorities and the fantastic voice of the Icelander manipulated with filters used 15 years ago on “Debut”. A return to the roots (of human origins…).
