Je suis de ceux qui ont été fasciné dans les années 90 par Massive Attack mais aussi de ceux qui ont été désabusé par la suite. Des albums sans grande inspiration, une désinvolture atroce... Bref Massive Attack, c'était mieux avant, bien avant. Mais demain ? Si Tricky et Mushroom n'ont toujours pas réapparu, Daddy G a fini par revenir et rejoindre 3D qui seul ne parvenait pas à faire grand chose de bien. Est-ce leur retrouvaille qui a accouché d'une renaissance inattendue pour un nouvel album qui d'après les premiers extraits se rapprochent du niveau de "Blue Lines" et "Protection". Pour s'en convaincre, allez écouter du sombre et divin "Pray For Rain", on retrouve cette atmosphère inquiétante et sombre comme sur "Karmacoma", un groove au ralenti comme dans "Sly" et pour couronner le tout, Tunde Adebimpe, chanteur de TV On The Radio, pose sa voix de manière magistrale. Bref c'est une excellente surprise, de quoi se réconcilier.

I am one of those who were fascinated in the 90's by Massive Attack but also one of those who were afterward disenchanted. Albums without inspiration, a atrocious carelessness... Well Massive Attack, it was better before, well really before. But tomorrow? If Tricky and Mushroom do not still reappear, Daddy G eventually comes back and joins 3D who lonely were unable to record godd songs. It is their re-formation which gives birth to an unexpected revival for a new album which according to the first tracks available get closer to the quality level of "Blue Lines" and "Protection". To prove it, just listen to the somber and divine "Pray For Rain", we find this disturbing and dark atmosphere as on "Karmacoma", a downtempo groove as in "Sly" and what's more, we get Tunde Adebimpe, the singer of Tv On The Radio, puts majestically his voice. In brief it is an excellent surprise. It's reconciliation time.

La rentrée est chargée avec beaucoup de sorties. La semaine prochaine sort le prochain album du producteur français Wax Taylor. En exclusivité voici un mini-mix présentant "In The Mood For Life" qui s'annonce dans la lignée de ses précédents albums aux ambiances trip-hop et abstract hip-hop. Ce roi du sample est un véritable amoureux de la musique, extrêmement humble lorsque je l'ai rencontré et son travail est l'oeuvre d'un orfèvre aux connaissances impressionnantes. Je vous l'avais annoncé, la French Touch première édition est de retour. On dépoussière tous ces titres filtrés et comme avec "Venus (Sunshine People)" de Cheek, on se rend vite compte que ces morceaux n'ont pas pris une ride. Une énorme basse, un sample vocal funk et un génie du remix Pepe Bradock. Excellente idée du label Versatile qui réédite ce maxi avec également un autre excellent remix, celui de DJ Gregory.

Let's remove the dust on all these filtered tracks and as with Cheek's "Venus (Sunshine People)", we realize that these songs did not take a wrinkle. An enormous bassline, a voice funk sample and a genius of remixing, Pepe Bradock. Il faut suivre : c'est l'histoire d'un new yorkais qui se nomme Professor Genius et sort des maxis de pop new wave très 80's sur le label Italians Do It Better mais qui adore aussi la musique disco et édite quelques titres assez rares de temps en temps sous le pseudo Bim Marx, qui sortent sur le label Stilove4music. Autant j'aimais Professor Genius autant j'adore Bim Marx qui, accompagné cette fois-ci de Master Kahan (quelqu'un connaît ?) sort un maxi 4 titres "Lend A Hand". Que des bombes tel que "Calypso", morceau barré et groovy comme pas deux.

Try to follow: it is the story of a guy from New York who names Professor Genius and produce new wave pop music sounded like in the 80's, released on the label Italians Do It Better but who also likes disco music and edits rare songs from time to time under the name Bim Marx, which come out on the label Stilove4music. So much I appreciate Professor Genius so much I love Bim Marx who, accompanied this time with Master Kahan (does anybody know him ?) has just released out a new 4 tracks EP "Lend A Hand". Real dancefloors bombs such as "Calypso", totally crazy and fully groovy tune which rocks!

Bluffant et excellent sont les qualificatifs pour Dub FX, un anglais de Bristol, bastion du trip-hop (Portishead), du dub (Smith & Mighty) et de la drum'n bass (Roni Size). "Everythinks a Ripple" est le premier album de ce beatboxer. Tous les genres musicaux de Bristol sont réunis et sortent d'enregistrements réalisés uniquement avec le son de sa voix aidée d'une pédale d'effets et de boucles Roland. Je suis fasciné par ce qu'il réalise et pour vous convaincre, il suffit de regarder le clip de "Love Someone", le meilleur titre, qui n'est qu'une session live dans la rue. Dub FX est aussi le premier à faire du dubstep 100% vocal !

Bluffing and excellent are qualifiers for Dub FX, English man from Bristol, the place of trip-hop (Portishead), dub (Smith & Mighty) and drum'n bass (Roni Size). All these music styles are in "Everythinks a Ripple", the first album of this beatboxer. All sounds on the Album have been created with his voice using a Roland Effects & loop pedal. I am fascinated by what he realizes and to convince you, just take look at the music video of "Love Someone", the best song, which is that a live session in the street of Bristol. Les Français ont tous connu dans les années 80 la danse des canards. Aujourd'hui sort la danse des singes. Le clip de "Peanuts Club", morceau produit par Noob et Brodinski est hilarant. Je vous mets au défi de refaire la chorégraphie avec grimaces incluses (!). Mis à part la vidéo, j'ai vraiment accroché avec ce côté tribal et techno hypnotique. Encore une bonne sortie du label canadien Turbo Recordings.

In the Eighties, All French people know la danse des canards (the ducks dance). Today we get the monkeys dance. The music video of "Peanuts Club", track produced by Noob and Brodinski is hilarious. I challenge you to redo the choreography with the grimaces (!). Set apart the video, I really stuck with this hypnotic tribal and techno tune. Another good release of the Canadian label Turbo Recordings.

Méconnue, la scène house made in Brasil est pourtant de choix et particulièrement festive comme le prouve le morceau "Disco, Down and Dirty" sorti sur Lunatic Jazz Records.

Welcome on board in the "Disco Bus" of Anhanguera, a duet of Brazilian producers, Dudu Palandre & Décio Deep. Underestimated, house music made in Brasil is nevertheless of excellent quality and really parties oriented as proves it the track " Disco, Down and Dirty " come out on Lunatic Jazz Records.

Après l'initiative de Baccardi avec Groove Armada qui a produit quelques titres exclusifs offerts aux internautes. C'est au tour de la bière jamaicaine Red Stripe de reprendre le principe. Une commande a été faite à Johan Hugo, moitié de Radioclit, et la MC jamaicaine Terry Lynn de composer un mini-album montrant l'influence de la musique jamaicaine. Et le tout gratuit. La collaboration est géniale et les morceaux sont loin d'être baclés ou des fonds de tiroir ! Comme par exemple, la réponse à "American Boy" d'Estelle avec "Jamaican Girl" et son sample issu du titre "No Coke" de Dr Alban. Contrairement à l'alcool, l'abus de musique n'est toujours pas d'actualité...

Pourquoi ? Parce que son "Chicago" accompagné de la voix de Teff Balmer va faire survolter vos ipods, les dancefloors prenant place dans les playlists de tous les DJs. Une pochette magnifique, un nom génial, Organ Morgan et un maxi fabuleux "Cocaine Afternoon". On le doit à un groupe gallois expérimental dont chaque titre (que des instrumentaux), est un bijou d'abstract hip-hop. Organ Morgan se fait un place aux côtés des Bonobo et autres Quiet Village. En sus de la ballade cinématique "Broken Heart", je vous conseille de vous laisser transporter par le tendre "Cocaine Afternoon", inspiré par The Avalanches.

A beautiful cover, a great name, Organ Morgan, and a fabulous EP "Cocaine Afternoon" thanks to this experimental Welsh group, on which each track (only instrumental tunes) is a jewel of abstract hip-hop. Organ Morgan gives way beside Bonobo and Quiet Village, among others. In addition to the kinematic ballad "Broken Heart", I advise you to get high by the soft sweet "Cocaine Afternoon", inspired by The Avalanches.

Je vais finir par croire qu'il faut vivre dans un pays froid ou pluvieux pour produire du nu-disco ou cosmic disco. On retrouve la Belgique avec Aeroplane, la Suède ou la Norvège avec Todd Terje et Prins Thomas, et maintenant la Finlande et l'Islande, pays dont sont issus le duo Filipsson & Lindblad. L'inspiration doit être là-bas plus évidente pour écrire des morceaux envoûtants à rallonge (minimum syndical 8 minutes). Filipsson & Lindblad ont signé sur le tout jeune label Nang Records et sort un premier album “A Splendor In The Grass”, tout un programme ! En espérant qu'ils confirmeront tout le bien que j'en pense depuis que j'ai découvert le très relaxant “Happy Birthday Day Jef”.

The success key: a great sample (Chaka Khan) and a melody which everybody keep in their mind. Today, there are Armand Van Helden and A-Trak who launched Duck Sauce which takes the same way. "Anyway" is the tempering of "Music Sounds Better With You" and also based on a sample known for all DJ of disco, "I Can Do It (Anyway You Want)" of Final Edition. It will be a big success for sure. The "Greatest Hits" EP of Duck Sauce will be available in September on Fool's Good label.

Je n'avais pas encore eu l'occasion de parler de tout le bien que je pense du dernier album du producteur androgyne canadien, Tiga. "Ciao!" est un recueil d'electro-pop déclinée à toutes les sauces, à toutes les influences. Au delà de ses incroyables talents de DJ, Tiga a trouvé sa voie et sa voix. Je suis d'ailleurs tombé sous le charme de son dernier maxi issu de l'album, "Beep Beep Beep", dont chaque remixe vaut le coup, avec une préférence pour celui des deux frères belges de Soulwax.

I had not still had the opportunity to write about all the good I think of the last album of the Canadian androgynous producer, Tiga. "Ciao!" is a collection of electro-pop tracks declined in all substyles with various influences. Beyond his incredible talents of DJ, Tiga found his way and his voice. Je continue ma sélection spéciale estivale avec une compilation que je vous recommande, "We Love Jazzmin" avec originaux, inédits et remixes issus du catalogue du label strabougeois Jazzmin. Alors que l'album de The Count & Sinden se fait toujours désirer, les 2 têtes de ponte de la Fidget House réapparaissent avec un nouveau single "Mega" dévastateur. Alan Braxe qui a ressuscité son label Vulture, Fred Falke avec quelques maxis sortis, Air qui revient à la rentrée avec un album, ne manquent plus que Daft Punk et Cassius pour compléter le tableau d'un retour de la French Touch 1.0. Pour Daft Punk, on attendra tandis qu'avec Cassius, on peut écouter un nouveau maxi "Youth Speed Trouble Cigarettes" inattendu et surprenant. J'ai toujours un faible pour Cassius et dès la première écoute de "Y-S-T-C", j'ai de suite accroché. A vous de me dire si vous également.
