Du Bonobo dans la pure tradition, une balade nu-soul avec sa nouvelle trouvaille, la chanteuse Andreya Triana. Ma plénitude estivale.

What a pleasure to discover that the not very famous but a high rated artist from the Ninja Tune crew, Bonobo is coming back with a new EP released in Septembrer, "The Keeper". Classic, original Bonobo style, a nu-soul track with his new found singer, Andreya Triana. Summer Peaceful.

Il faut parfois faire abstraction d'a priori comme lorsque j'ai découvert Jordan Evane, un producteur français qui, en voyant sa photo et la boîte de nuit à la Baule où il mixe, n'avait rien pour me plaire. Sauf que son maxi "1983" (sa date de naissance ?) est une bombe d'electro house imparable pour les dancefloors.

Le morceau "Day' N' Nite" n'est plus à présenter, le rappeur Kid Cudi est passé à la postérité, les Crookers avec leur remix se sont faits connaître sur le sol américain. Le nombre de remixes de ce titre est énorme. Il n'en manquait plus qu'un : la version beatbox. Pas de machine, juste des cordes vocales pour recréer le morceau. Nous le devons au trio d'inconnus, De Grote Vinnie, Donnie et Sjakie Show. Chapeau !

It is not anymore necessary to present the track "Day'N'Nite", the MC Kid Cudi is famous worldwide now, the Crookers with their remix became well known in the USA. The number of remixes of this song is enormous. But one was still missing: the beatbox version. No machine, just human vocal cords to record the tuneto the unknown trio, Grote Vinnie, Donnie and Sjakie Show. Great job!

L'été est souvent marqué au fer rouge d'une chanson dance. Il y a la connue, celle qui se vend par millions, et les autres. Parmi ces dernières, j'ai fini par en trouver une très bonne. Alors direction Ibiza, le Pacha et le producteur Simon Faz qui nous sort une "Music" ultra entraînante. Certainement pas le morceau de la décennie mais parfait pour passer cet été.

The summer is often associated with a dance song. There is always one famous, the one which is sold by millions, and the others. Among these last ones, I found a nice track. So direction to Ibiza, the Pasha and the producer Simon Faz who takes out us a "Music" dancefloor oriented. Maybe not the tune of the decade but perfect to spend this summer.

Inconditionnel des composition de l'américain Johnny Jewel, je regrette qu'il ne soit pas plus reconnu que cela. Celui qui se cache derrière Glass Candy, The Chromatics, bref toutes les productions (ou presque) du label Italians Do It Better, a une nouvelle muse, un canadienne de Montréal, Meagan Louise. Totalement sous le charme de cette voix enfantine, Johnny Jewel a trouvé une nouvelle source d'inspiration. Bien sûr, on reste dans ces ambiances de downtempo nu-disco très années 80. J'ai une certaine impatience à découvrir l'album "II", surtout depuis l'écoute d'un premier titre "Dans Mes Rêves", sorte de contine, de machine à songes, de cachet pour planer.

Ardent supporter of tunes composed by American Johnny Jewel, I regret he is not more recognized than it. Il existe un proverbe arabe qui dit "Une tradition commence la première fois". C'est en 2007 que j'ai démarré cette tradition, proposer ma bande originale estivale. Et voici donc la troisième édition, "One Summer in 2009", où chaque morceau sélectionné est dédié à une situation : un hall d'aéroport, une plage, une promenade dans les rues, une virée nocturne, un moment de solitude, une visite, une sieste... Bref tout ce qui fait un été, en espérant que ce mix vous accompagnera tout le long d'une saison ensoleillée.

There is an Arabic proverb which says "A tradition begins the first time". It is in 2007 when I started this tradition, to propose my summer soundtrack. And here is thus the third edition(publishing), "One Summer in 2009", when every selected piece is dedicated to a situation: a hall of airport, a beach, a walk in streets, a night-stroll, one moment of solitude, a visit, a siesta... In brief all which makes one summer, by hoping that this mix will accompany you during a sunny season.

Grosse exclusivité : Vitalic, l'incroyable producteur techno français, père des hymnes "La Rock 01" et "Poney Part" vient de mettre en ligne une vidéo pour apprécier sa dernière production "Your Disco Song", en attendant son prochain album prévu pour septembre. Plus électro que techno, avec un zeste de pop, Vitalic donne l'impression d'avoir signé chez Kitsuné ou Modular. Bref il nous a pris par surprise, reste à découvrir ce qu'il nous réserve sur l'album.

Quel plaisir d'écouter l'album "Keep It Unreal" d'un des symboles du label anglais Ninja Tune, Mr Scruff ! 10 ans après sa sortie, "Keep It Unreal" sur lequel on trouve son plus gros hit "Get A Move On" est réédité en version remasterisée. Pour ceux qui n'ont jamais porté attention à ce bidouilleur de génie, c'est le moment ou jamais. J'ai toujours un faible pour "Cheeky", un titre nu-jazz divin qui déborde de groove langoureux.

For those who have never paid attention on this brilliant do-it-yourselfer, it's now or never. I always have a weak for "Cheeky", a divine track of nu-jazz which overflows languishing groove.

Un obscur label, Black Booty Records, un producteur inconnu, Floor Faction, un remixeur anglais tout aussi inconnu, Jonnie Polyester, et un morceau house tiré du fameux "Miss You" des Rolling Stones qui remporte les suffrages des dancefloors dès les premières secondes. "Your Missus" est d'une évidence incroyable et divinement succulent.

Restons dans la musique électronique avec Milton Jackson qui s'est remarqué avec son dernier album sorti il y a quelques mois "Crash". Une vraie révélation pour moi, qui à travers la sortie en maxi de "1998", un vieux morceau de l'écossais me plonge dans l'été. Ce morceau aux ambiances lounge est d'une pure beauté, d'une sensualité extrême, d'une volupté adaptée aux soirées ensoleillées. Une tournée pour tous !

Let's continue with electronic music and Milton Jackson who was under the spotlights with his last album come out some months ago, "Crash". A true revelation for me, who through the new EP release of "1998", an old track of the Scot plunges me into summer. This tune with ambient and lounge atmospheres is of a pure beauty, an extreme sensualism, a delight adapted in the sunny evenings.

Le King Of Pop nous a quittés. Malheureusement il n'aura jamais réussi ces 15 dernières années à retrouver son trône. Pour lui rendre hommage, il fallait au moins un clip, un tube, une mise en scène et une chorégraphie, donc ce sera "Thriller"mais sous une nouvelle monture pour un clin d'oeil à base de légos, des jouets pour enfant. Sacré Bambi !!

King Of Pop just left us. Regrettably he have not been able for the last 15 years to reconquer his throne. To honour him, it was needed at least a music video, an anthem and a great choreography, thus it will be "Thriller" but under a new frame for a wink based on legos, toys for children. Rest in peace Bambi!

L'album de Miss Kittin et The Hacker est un joyau. J'en ai déjà parlé mais la sortie du second EP issu "Two" est l'occasion d'en remettre une couche. Forcément eigties, très cosmic disco, "Party In My Head" m'obsède. Impossible de s'en détacher, il reste in my head !

The last album of Miss Kittin and The Hacker is so great. I still wrote a review about it but the coming out of the second EP from "Two" is an occasion to demonstrate it. Of course eigties, with a cosmic disco touch, "Party In My Head" is obsessing me. Impossible to leave it, it still stays in my head!

Peu d'informations, tout juste un myspace, difficile alors de vous parler de cette MC new yorkaise, Chelley. Reste à présenter son morceau "Took The Night" qui fait sensation tant dans le milieu hip-hop qu'électro et ragga. Il suffit de chercher sur Google pour voir le nombre impressionnant de remixes qui sont disponibles pour s'en rendre compte. Que ceux qui aiment Mia, Santogold et consors, se précipitent sur "Took The Night".

So let's write about her track "Took The Night" which gets a huge buzz in both hip-hop scene, electro and ragga ones. Just take a look on Google to see the number of remixes available. Du funk, du funk, du funk, c'est ce que nous propose le tout jeune label Manmade avec un premier volume de "Manmade Feature Funk". Des breaks chaloupés, des basses et guitares groovy et quelques acapellas bien sentis. Comme sur "Let's Funk" de Quasamodo que je jouerai à coups sûr dans mes mixes dorénavant tant il est efficace, énergique et rempli de surprises (mais chut !!!).

Funk, funk, funk music, it's what proposes us the new label Manmade with its first volume of "Manmade Feature Funk". Swaying breaks, groovy basslines and guitars, and some nice acapellas. Just like on Quasamodo's "Let's Funk" which I shall play for sure from now on in my mixes so much this track is effective, energetic and full of surprises (but shh!!!).

J'ai toujours eu un faible pour le MC, Mos Def, qui n'est jamais tombé dans la caricature du rapper américain, qui sait aussi bien rapper que chanter. Cela fait près d'un an que j'entendais parler d'un album à venir. C'est fait, il s'intitule "The Ecstatic" et dispose d'une armée de producteurs reconnus tels que Chad Hugo des Nerds, Oh No, Preservation et surtout Madlib qui lui a sorti l'artillerlie lourde comme sur "Auditiorium", peut-être le meilleur titre de l'album. L'instru est un hip-hop cinématique (quasi bolywoodien) dans la veine d'un François de Roubaix. Un nouveau classique du genre selon moi.

I always had a weak for the MC, Mos Def, who never fell in the caricature of the American rapper, who knows to sing too. It has been near one year since I heard about a new album to come. It's just done, it's entitled "The Ecstatic" and has an army of well-known producers such as Chad Hugo of The Nerds, Oh No, Preservation and especially Madlib who gave Mos Def heavy tracks as the "Auditiorium", maybe the best song of the album. The instrumental is a kinematic hip-hop (almost bolywood influence) in the vein of François de Roubaix. A new classic of kind according to me.

Certains d'entre vous se rappellent peut-être de cet obscur groupe français de rock des années 80, the Barking Dogs. Et bien sachez que derrière ce même nom se cache un duo italien qui fait des edits de disco dont je raffole. Le dernier en date "The Guitar Man" a eu même le droit à une version bootleg dont l'acapella est Club Silencio qui débite son histoire sur une basse qui semble marcher sur pied . Playlisté par James Murphy, Cosmo Vitelli ou encore Pete Herbert. Rien que cela !

Some of you remember maybe of this underground French 80's rock band, he Barking Dogs. And you must know now that behind the same name hides an Italian duet who produces disco edits I appreciate a lot. Their latest one "The Guitar Man" had even the right for a bootleg version with the acapella of Club Silencio which tells his story on a bassline which seems to walk on its own foot! Playlisted by James Murphy, Cosmo Vitelli and Pete Herbert. Nothing to say more!

Quand nostalgie rime avec humour, cela donne The Zimmers qui reprennent "Firestarter" des Prodigy, titre culte d'une génération devenue trentenaire. Les années passent, le morceau est toujours aussi bon mais la vieillesse tend les bras. Le clip l'illustre très bien.

When nostalgia rhymes with humor, you get The Zimmers who take back Prodigy's "Firestarter", cult track of a generation become thirty-year old. Years are going fast, this tune is always so good but the old age reachs out. The music video illustrates it very well.

Après ce détour par l'Afrique et ses rythmiques maraboutés, une envie soudaine de jazz m'a envahie mais je la souhaitais singulière, que ce podcast soit unique dans la collection Blog For Music Lovers. Garder les fondamentaux du jazz avec ses cuivres, ses chants en y injectant de la musique house, nu-jazz et du breakbeat. J'avais remarqué le producteur Lone avec son premier album "Lemurian" aux critiques très positives. Dans la lignée des Flying Lotus, Dam-Funk ou encore Sa-Ra, il crée des instrus hip-hop aussi novateurs que sensationnels. Pas suffisant pour lui qui suit une courbe d'évolution pas si surprenante mais inattendue tout de même que l'on retrouve sur son nouveau maxi "Cluster Dreams" plus orienté dancefloor. Sur "Fly Fire Rainbow", on se sent vibrer par une ligne de basse funky associée à un groove au synthétiseur très 80's et transporter par ces mélodies atmosphériques. Un mélange d'inspiration Boards Of Canada et d'influence Todd Terje. Que demander de plus ?

I discovered producer Lone with his first album "Lemurian" which had many positive criticisms. In the lineage of Flying Lotus, Dam-funk or still Sa-Ra, he creates hip-hop instrumental tracks so innovative as sensational. Not enough for him who follows a curve of evolution not so surprising but unexpected at the same time. We find it with his new EP "Cluster Dreams" more dancefloor oriented. On "Fly Fire Rainbow", we feel vibrating by a funky bassline associated with a groove of 80's keyboards and transporting by these atmospheric melodies. A mixture of Boards Of Canada's inspiration and Todd Terje's influence. Why asking more?
