To celebrate the confidential release of DJ Blaqstarr's debut album, "King Of Roq", nothing better than a music video to put some pictures on the hip-hop I describe as tribal. This man is a witch who has goldfingers. Also, through this video, a chance to see another version of tecktonik, a guetto tecktonik!
La mode des bootlegs est retombée mais toujours bien présente. Les productions continuent d'arriver en nombre, mais l'échos et l'impact sont de moindre envergure. Qu'importe car la qualité est toujours là et bien là. Avec les bootlegers de la première heure, DJ Moule, DJ Zebra, Overdub, Diplo entre autre mais aussi des petits nouveaux tel que le californien DJ Hoff, alias Lil Squeezy.
Ce proche des Spank Rock m'a marqué par la connexion géniale qu'il a créée entre le sud et le nord, entre Memphis et Toronto, entre les rappers, Three 6 Mafia, et les producteurs d'électro, MSTRKRFT. Habiller l'acapella "Stay Fly" des sudistes avec l'instru "Easy Love" des canadiens MSTRKRFT, c'est de la haute couture musicale. DJ Hoff est un styliste de grande classe, que tout le monde le sache.
Bootlegs are not anymore so hype but still allive. New productions continue to be many, but the echoes and the impact are smaller. Never mind because the quality is still there. With bootlegers of the first era, DJ Moule, DJ Zebra, Overdub, Diplo and some others but also with new ones such as the Californian DJ Hoff, aka Lil Squeezy.
This guy, close to Spank Rock crew, impressed me with the connection he created brilliant between north and south, between Memphis and Toronto, between rappers, Three 6 Mafia, and electro producers , MSTRKRFT. To wear the acapella "Stay Fly" of the southerners with the instrumental "Easy Love" of the Canadians MSTRKRFT is "haute couture". DJ Hoff is a designer of high-class!
Pour cet hiver, nous sommes bien gâté en house music. Le duo Bodyrox composé des DJ Jon Pearn et Nick Bridges revient à la charge après un énorme succès de "Yeah Yeah" qui à l'époque était dans les playlists de tout le monde (Deep Dish, Pete Tong, Sébastien Ingrosso, Mark Night en tête).
Bodyrox a de nouveau appel à la chanteuse Luciana (on ne change une équipe qui gagne) pour un "What Planet You On ?" dont le remix Prok & Fitch est imparable. Ceux qui avaient aimé Mason Vs Princess Superstar et leur "Perfect (Exceeder)" vont se régaler. J'en fais partie !
For this winter, we are really spoiled in house music. The duo Bodyrox composed by the DJs Jon Pearn and Nick Bridges comes back after a huge success of "Yeah Yeah", which last year was in the playlists of everyone (Deep Dish, Pete Tong, Sebastian Ingrosso, Mark Night...).
Bodyrox has again appealed to the singer Luciana for a "What Planet are You?" whose remix of Prok & Fitch is incredible of energy. Those who loved Mason Vs Princess Superstar and their "Perfect (Exceeder)" will enjoy this track. I belong to those!
DangerMouse et Ceelo sont de retour avec leur projet Gnarls Barkley. Après un carton plein pour un premier album excellent conjugant le talent de sampling de DangerMouse et la voix impressionnante de Ceelo, on attend de voir quelle tête aura ce deuxième opus. L'impatience est trop grande pour attendre "The Odd Couple" qui sortira ce printemps. Heureusement Internet existe et nous permet de découvrir en exclusivité un premier morceau "Run". Une ambiance black funk soul des années 60 avec un rythme soutenu. Encore un carton pour Gnarls Barkley !
DangerMouse and Ceelo are back with their project Gnarls Barkley. After a huge success for their first excellent album combining the sampling talent of DangerMouse and impressive voice of Ceelo, I was interested in hearing what will sound this second opus. Impatience was too big to wait for "The Odd Couple" which will be released this spring. Fortunately Internet exists and allows us to discover a first song "Run". A black funk soul mood of 60's with a steady beat. Another success of Gnarls Barkley, for sure!
Rob Smith et Ray Mighty sont deux figures emblématiques des années 90 méconnus et mes idoles en ce temps. Ces as de la reverb, touches à tout (dub, reggae, trip-hop, drum'n bass, downtempo), influences essentielles de la scène de bristol (Massive Attack, Portishead, Roni Size...) n'ont jamais eu la reconnaissance à laquelle ils pouvaient prétendre. Alors quelques irréductibles tentent de combler cette justice, tel que le label japonais Rush qui sort un best of de Smith & Mighty.
On y retrouve toutes les facettes de ce duo qui disposait d'un carnet d'adresses incroyable de MCs et chanteurs comme la divine Tammy Payne qui chante sur un de leurs plus beaux morceaux, "Same". Ce mélange de new wave avec nappe de synthé, de hip-hop old-school avec ce beat universel et de musique soul grâce à la somptueuse voix de madame Payne. Plus de 10 ans après, le plaisir est intact. La marque des très grands...
Rob Smith and Ray Mighty are two unknwon emblematic 90's figures and my idols at this time. Masters of reverb, producing all kind of music (dub, reggae, trip-hop, drum'n bass, downtempo), key influences of the Bristol scene (Massive Attack, Portishead, Roni Size...) have never had the recognition they deserve. While some irreducible fans trying to fill this justice, as the Japanese label Rush which has just released one best of Smith & Mighty.
It includes all best tunes of this duo, who had an incredible address book of MCs and singers like divine Tammy Payne, who sings on one of their most beautiful songs, "Same". Partons pour l'Allemagne et retrouver deux figures de la techno minimale, Martin Eyerer et Oliver Klein. Ces deux là font une paire exceptionnelle tant leur complémentarité et leur complicité rendent leurs mixes et productions, des moments d'exaltation. Je ne peux que vous conseiller d'écouter "Movement", fantastique.
Sur le label Kling Klong, les deux producteurs viennent de lâcher une bombe sur "Babylon". Un titre mi-techno et mi-minimale. On se laisse guider par Martin Eyerer et Oliver Klein, hypnotiser par cette mélodie répétitive envoûtante et imprégner par une basse surpuissante. "Babylon" n'a qu'à bien se tenir !

These two gyus are a pair which is exceptional both their complementarity and complicity make their mixes and productions, moments of exhilaration. I can only advise you to listen to the album "Movement", fantastic moment.
On Kling Klong, the both producers just drop a track bomb on "Babylon", half-tech half-minimal. You will be guided by Martin Eyerer and Oliver Klein, hypnotized by this haunting repetitive melody and permeated by a powerful bass. "Babylon" has to be held well!
Colin Lindo est un des artistes les versatiles que j'ai pu écouter. Ce jamaicain installé à Londres a démarré aux côtés de ses amis 4 Hero avec la jungle et la drum'n bass, connu sous le nom Alpha Omega. Il a également touché au reggae et mais aussi à la techno de détroit en se cachant derrière le pseudo Nubian Mindz. Ce type est un curieux et amoureux de la musique, alors se mettre dans la peau de Carl Craig ou de Theo Parrish lui allait parfaitement.
Après un premier album, Nubian Mindz prend un virage plus jazz et vient de sortir un vibrant hommage à la house de Chicago. Cela donne un opus "Downside Up"de deep house aussi classieux qu'inspiré à l'image (ou l'écoute !) de "Flying High", une nappe de synthé, une voix voicodée et un beat très jazzy. Laissez vous envelopper par la douceur pour voler haut, haut, haut.
Colin Lindo is one of the most versatile artists I could listen. This jamaicain guy living in London started alongside his friends 4 Hero with jungle and drum'n bass music and is known as Alpha Omega. He also touched on reggae and but also in Detroit techno with his project Nubian Mindz. This artist is a curious music lover, then getting into the skin of Carl Craig and Theo Parrish was going him perfectly.
After a first album, Nubian Mindz takes a more jazz turn and has just released a tribute to the Chicago classics house music. This gives an opus "Downside Up" classy and inspired deep house, let's take an example as the track "Flying High", a simple keyboard, a voicoded voice and a very jazzy beat. Let yourself be enveloped in this sweetness to fly high, high, high.
Je resterai toujours un fan fidèle de productions anglaises de reggae-dub. Les différentes scènes ont ce je ne sais quoi qui me subjugue et ce quelque soit la période. Parmi toute une liste d'artistes et collectifs anglais, G-Corp (également appelé G-Corporation) se distingue par une qualité constante de chacune de ses productions. Du haut niveau, jamais de déception !
Et les voilà de retour avec The Mighty Tree pour offrir de bonnes vibes, ralentir le tempo de nos vies urbaines. Une pause dans nos vies, un "Perilous Time" où les conteurs Messenger Douglas et Juggla nous offrent une évasion rêveuse de quelques minutes.
I will always be a loyal fan of UK reggae-dub productions. The various scenes always have somethnig special that subjugates me, whatever the period. Among a long list of artists and soundsystems, G-Corp (also called G-Corporation) is characterized by consistent quality of each of their productions. Always on the top, never disappointment!
Now they are back with The Mighty Tree to provide good vibes, to slow the tempo of our urban lives. A pause in our lives, a "Perilous Time" where storytellers, Messenger Juggla and Douglas, offer us few minutes of a dreaming escape.
Michael Maguaer est un tout jeune producteur russe. Je l'avais déjà remarqué avec son premier titre "Sensatechika". Très influencé par le breakbeat (ses références sont Prodigy, Crystal Method), il a dérivé vers une musique house qu'il qualifie lui-même d'intellectuelle. Plus pour son approche de l'utilisation des machines que dans sa musique à proprement parler.
Attention à vos tympans, basse monstrueuse en approche... "You Want More" est une claque auditive tant les basses fréquences pénètrent en vous. Et le pire c'est que l'on en redemande !
Michael Maguaer is a young Russian producer. I had already noticed him with his first track "Sensatechika". Highly influenced by breakbeat music (his references are Prodigy, Crystal Method among others), he drifted into an house music he describes to intellectual. More for his approach to create and mix sounds than in his music.
Attention to your eardrums, monstrous bass approach... "You Want More" is an hearing slap because of low frequencies penetrate in you. And the worst is that we want more!
On le sait tous, l'union fait la force. Alors quand un DJ est-allemand, Ronski Speed connu aussi sous le nom Sun Decade, est associé à Rex Mundi, aussi appelé Boy Hagemann, on peut espérer que ces producteurs de musique techno et trance se subliment mutuellement.
Et c'est bel et bien le cas avec un "The Perspective Space" sidérant. Une house progressive aussi envoûtante que de la trance et aussi entraînante que de la techno. Rex Mundi et Ronski Speed tiennent là un titre fatal, imparable pour n'importe quelle soirée (à une heure avancée de la nuit). Quand l'efficacité revêt une simplicité, on ne peut que s'incliner ou danser...
We know all, unity is a strength. So when a German DJ, Ronski Speed also known as Sun Decade, is associated with Rex Mundi, also named Boy Hagemann, we do hope these producers of techno and trance music are going to sublimate each other.
And it is indeed the case with the staggering "The Perspective Space". A progressive house as bewitching as trance music and as energizing as techno music. Rex Mundi and Ronski Speed get a fatal track, unstoppable for any party. When efficiency is simple, we can only bow or dance...
Le soleil est de retour pour ce week-end, l'occasion de mettre sur sa platine des titres estivaux qui sentent bons la plage, les cocktails et les pistes de danse joyeuses où chacun se trémousse de façon sensuelle. Rien de tel qu'une bonne electro house et ses lignes de basse ultra funky, ses beats imposant à nos jambes des mouvements incontrôlés. Un embrasement général et jouissif.
Le remix de "Changes", morceau des DJs américains et espagnols, David Tort, DJ Ruff et DJ Disciple, dispose de tout cela. C'est un vrai coup de coeur dont je ne saurai me passer sur mon ipod. Surtout pas de "Changes" !

Le label Bangers a eu la bonne idée de rééditer quelques morceaux d'Overproof Soundsystem, collectif de reggae-dub anglais dont fait partie l'incroyable MC Ras Tweed. Overproof Soundsystem est certainement l'une des figures incontournables des 10 dernières années en matière de musique aux influences jamaicaines. On les croyait séparés à jamais à la suite de la fermeture du label Different Drummer mais leur page myspace prouve qu'ils existent encore, ils sont en tournée (malheureusement pas de date prévue en France).
Sur ce EP intitulé "The Model", vous retrouverez le désormais classique "Watch What You Put Inna". Ce véritable tube composé par Brian Nordhoff, Joe Stevens, Les Fleming et Roberto Cimarosti dispose de tous les atouts pour traverser les années sans vieillir avec un thème développé par chanteurs et MCs sur la weed et les joints. Un hymne de la fumette !
The label Bangers had a good idea to reedit some tracks of Overproof Soundsystem, UK reggae-dub collective which includes the incredible MC Ras Tweed. Overproof Soundsystem is certainly one of the essential jamaican style figures of the last decade. I thought they were separated forever as a result of the closure of the label Different Drummer but their myspace page proves that they still exist, they are on tour (unfortunately no date in France).
On this EP "The Model", you will find the classic "Watch What You Put Inna". This hit composed by Brian Nordhoff, Joe Stevens, Les Fleming and Roberto Cimarosti has all advantages to cross the years without aging according to a thema developed by singers and MCs about weed and joints. An anthem of smoking!
Derrière Heralds Of Change se cachent Mike Slott & Hudson Mohawke, un irlandais et un écossais qui produisent un hip-hop qui dépassent ses propres frontières. Les bases du new-school rencontrent un electronica lo-fi bioniques aux rythmes syncopés. J'ose comparer ses deux comparses à Madlib pour leur côté funk underground, à Flying Lotus et Prefuse 73 pour l'incorporation d'éléménts électro noisy. Un hip-hop joignant les deux extrêmes, old-school par bien des aspects et new-school pour d'autres. Un hip-hop futuriste ??
"Secrets" est un nouvel opus dont chaque titre aurait mérité une chronique. C'est la rencontre de machines Atari et TR-808, la rencontre de samples de funk et de sons Nintendo. Je continue dans ma lancée des DJettes avec une chronique de la plus belle d'entre elles, Missil. Cette jeune française est une bombe dans tous les sens du terme, elle a tout pour elle : un visage divin, un pur style, une connaissance musicale impressionnante, une technique de mix irréprochable et un vrai don pour la production.
Missil sort en mars son second album, "Targets", fidèle aux différentes facettes musicales de la demoiselle : reggae, hip-hop, breakbeat, drum'n bass. Le résultat est brillant et remuant comme j'aime. Elle a fait appel comme sur son premier album à de nombreux MCs dont Dynamite MC du Full Cycle Crew. Le premier maxi est tiré du morceau "Forward". Cela rappellera à certains Gorillaz avec un zeste de reggae supplémentaire, pour d'autres cela serait du Nextmen dans le style. Faites suivre !
I continue with DJ women and a reviewof the most beautiful of them, Missil. This young French girl is a bomb in all sense: a divine face, a perfect style, impressive musical knowledges, a great mix technique and a true talent for production.
Missil isgoing to release in March her second album, "Targets", loyal to her various musical facets: reggae, hip-hop, breakbeat, drum'n bass. The result is brilliant and stirring as I like. She appealed as on her first album many MCs such as Dynamite MC from Full Cycle Crew. The first EP is taken from the song "Forward". This will remind tosome Gorillaz tracks with a reggae hint, for others it would sounds as a Nextmen classics. So Forward!
On pensait au retour du duo Miss Kittin et The Hacker. Finalement nous avons le droit à un nouvel album solo de la franco-berlinoise. "Batbox", qui sort sur Nobody's Bizzness, fait suite à "I Com" et démontre l'étendue du talent de la reine techno. L'album est plus accessible avec une production plus travaillée.
Oscillant entre techno "Playmate Of The Century", electro-trash ("Kittin Is High") et new-rave, Miss Kittin m'a impressionné par ses progrès vocaux. "Wash 'n' Dry" et "Lightmaker" sonnent tel du Depeche Mode époque "Violator". Quant à "Batbox", c'est un funk astral très eighties, tel un sample d'Herbie Hancock. Oui Kittin is high !
We thought the return of the duo Miss Kittin and The Hacker. Finally we have a new solo album of the French Berliner DJ. "Batbox", released on Nobody's Bizzness, follows "I Com" and demonstrates the breadth of talent of the techno Queen. An album more accessible with a great production.
Oscillating between techno ("Playmate Of The Century"), electro-trash ( "Kittin Is High") and new-rave, I was impressed by Miss Kittin and her voice progress. "Wash 'n' Dry" and "Lightmaker" ring as Depeche Mode tracks (album "Violator"). And "Batbox" is an astral eighties funk, sounding as a sample of Herbie Hancock. Yes Kittin is high!
L'explorateur fou de pop music, Sébastien Tellier, est de retour avec un nouvel album "Sexuality", co-produit avec Guy Manuel De Homen Christo, moitié de Daft Punk. Ce duo s'annonce prometteur avec un compositeur surdoué et un maître des machines en tout genre. Le travail du divin barbu devrait être magnifié par les doigts experts de l'homme à la tête de robot.
Tout l'album qui sortira sur Records Makers, est teinté de coquineries, de sensualités et d'humour comme le premier maxi s'intitulant "Sexual Sportswear" ou la pochette de l'album présentant Sébastien Tellier en chevalier sur son destrier parcourant un corps nu féminin. Le remix de Sebastian est une tuerie et le clip, une invitation à l'excitation masculine. Bref Sébastien Tellier et ses chansons vont accompagner nos folles nuits d'amour.
The crazy pop music explorer, Sébastien Tellier, is back with a new album "Sexuality", co-produced with Guy Manuel De Christo Homen, half of Daft Punk. i am waiting a lot for this duo composed by a talented composer and a production master. The work of bearded divine should be magnified by the expert fingers of the man with the robot head.
While the album to be released on Records Makers, is tinged with mischievous tricks, sensualities and humor as the first EP entitled "Sexual Sportswear" or the cover of the album with Sébastien Tellier a his knight riding on his horse a female nude body. The remix of Sebastian is one the greatest track of the last years and the music video is an invitation to male arousal. In short Sébastien Tellier and his songs will accompany our wildest love nights.
Un de mes morceaux préférés de ce début d'année, une nouvelle trouvaille myspace repris par Kitsuné (encore et toujours eux !). Rien sur Bitchee Bitchee Ya Ya Ya si ce n'est quelques remixes, Bonde Do Role, The Whip, qui circulaient sur la blogosphère. De quoi se faire déjà une réputation avant de balancer des tracks à la fois lo-fi et post-punk. Claviers vintages à profusion, la voix sucrée de Bitchee et une énergie à revendre formidable.
Soutenus par de nombreux artistes et DJs dont Soulwax, Digitalism, CSS, Erol Alkan, Bitchee Bitchee Ya Ya Ya pour son premier maxi "Fuck Friend" a eu le droit aux remixes de la crème des crèmes dont celui incontournable de Yuksek & Brodinski. Un joyau musical que je vous conseille plus que vivement !

Nothing informatin on Bitchee Bitchee Ya Ya Ya except some remixes, Bonde Do Role, The Whip, which were circulating on the blogosphere. Enough to get a reputation before launch their own lo-fi and post-punk tracks. Profusely vintage keyboards, the sweet voice of Bitchee and a formidable energy to share.

Toddla T fait partie de ce groupe de producteurs qui marquera 2008 aux côtés de Sinden, Commix, Hannah Holland, Hervé ou encore Alex Metric, chacun dans leur genre respectif. Celui de ce garçon de 19 ans est plutôt ancré du côté du hip-hop, dub et dancehall. Ce natif de Sheffield a déjà travaillé avec quelques pointures, Roots Manuva, Steve Edwards, DJ Cash Money. Un anglais précoce, à l'image du français Surkin.
Le EP "Do You Know", sorti sur 1965 Records, aurait pu être créé par Stereotyp ou encore Diplo. C'est vous dire le niveau que Toddla T possède. Mr Versatile, Miss Bienek, Miss Bienek et Trigganom pose sur ce même riddim qui m'a replongé dans les ambiances nocturnes du défunt Dub Club à Vienne. Entre grime, breakbeat, ragga, "Do You Know" intègre toutes les composantes de la musique actuelle. Le remix de Count of Monte Cristal & Sinden appuie là où ça fait mal à coup de basses distordues, de sirènes, de rythmiques sèches et envolées. Surpuissant !
Toddla T is one of the producers who will mark 2008 alongside Sinden, Commix, Hannah Holland, Hervé or Alex Metric, each in their respective style.
