Je reconnais avoir été dans ma jeunesse un joueur invétéré de Grand Theft Auto même si j'ai décroché depuis. Sauf pour leur bande sonore (notamment les radios lorsque l'on chevauche motos et voitures) qui est toujours pointue et excellente. Cela donne même lieu à des inédits spécialement conçus pour le jeu. Et le nouvel épisode "Chinatown" se voit créditer d'un morceau "Chinatown Wars" produit par Oh No du label Stones Throw avec les flows de Ghostface Killah du Wu Tang Clan & Doom (nouveau nom de MF Doom). Ca me donne presque envie de m'y remettre.

I recognize to be in my youth an inveterate player of Grand Theft Auto even if I dropped out since. Except for their soundtrack (in particular radios when you are astride motorcycles and cars) which is always sharp and excellent. It is an opportunity to discover exclusive tracks especially produced for the game. And the new episode "Chinatown" os crediting with a tune "Chinatown Wars" produced by Oh No of the californian label Stones Throw with featurings of Wu Tang Clan's Ghostface Killah and Doom (new name of MF Doom). It gives me almost envy to play again.

Faire partie des écurie des labels Compost et Drumpoet Community est un indice du talent dont dispose un producteur. Et l'allemand DPlay fait partie des élus. Habituellement accompagné de Manuel Letur, il sort en solo un maxi "Huubsand" à la pochette sportive et rétro voire kitsch. Mais une raison à cela, le titre "Huusband" est un hommage à deux des meilleurs joueurs de foot de l'équipe Schalke04 (!!!) mais aussi un morceau de house caverneux. Et surtout "Tschaka", deep house avec une touche de disco et dub, qui parle autant aux jambes qu'à l'esprit, tel un entraîneur qui parle à ses joueurs. Alors on sort des vestiaires et on rejoint la piste.

To be selected by labels such as Compost and Drumpoet Community is an indication of the talent a producer has. And German DPlay is one of these selected producers. Usually accompanied with Manuel Letur, he comes out a solo EP "Huubsand" with a kitsch and sport cover. But a reason in it, the track "Huusband" is a tribute to two of the best players of soccer team Schalke04 (!!!) but also a wonderful song of cavernous house. And a special mention for "Tschaka", deep house with a touch of disco and dub, which speaks as much to the legs as to the brain, such a trainer who speaks to his players. Parmi mes producteurs fétiches de musique house, Mike Monday a une place de choix. Certainement parce qu'il est un des rares à être un vrai musicien (saxophone, piano et basse), c'est aussi un ami d'Andy Cato de Groove Armada avec qui il avait commencé la musique dans les années 90. Depuis 2000, le fondateur du label Kinky Vinyl enchaîne les maxis qui se bonifient à chaque fois. Et "Zwivetty" est un de ses meilleurs morceaux, à la fois rétro, minimal et funky. Je ne me remets pas de ce synthé envoûtant qui rend hystérique.

Among my favourite producers of house music, Mike Monday has a place of choice. Certainly because he is one of rare producers to be a real musician (saxophone, piano and bass), he is also a friend of Andy Cato of Groove Armada with whom he had begun music in the 90's. Since 2000, the founder of the label, Kinky Vinyl, releases many EPs which are better every time. And "Zwivetty" is one of his best ones, at the same time retro, minimal and funky. Tel un chercheur scientifique, l'allemand Andre Crom est toujours en quête d'expériences, d'expérimentations tant dans la production que le DJing. Avec un seul impératif : le fun. Je suis vraiment fan des productions d'Andre Crom (sans connaître malgré tout ses sets) car elles sont évidentes (des mélodies qui restent ancrées à l'esprit) sans tomber dans la facilité. C'est un régal et son nouveau maxi "Jazz Thang" est si bon que ce sont les deux titres que je mets en écoute.

Such a scientific researcher, German Andre Crom is always in search of experiences, of experiments both in production and DJing. With one main imperative: fun. I am really a fan of his productions (without knowing nevertheless his DJ sets) because they are evident (melodies which remain anchored in your brain) without falling in ease side. It is a sweet delight and his new EP "Jazz Thang" is so good as I put in listening the two tracks "Jazz Thang" and "Gettin' Funky".

Je vous avais parlé il y a quelques mois du Kuduro, musique électronique tribale provenant de l'Angola, ancienne colonie portugaise. C'est justement au Portugal que le Kuduro a trouvé son fer de lance avec le groupe Buraka Som Sistema. Des rythmiques qui engendre la transe, ce côté noir empreint d'une certaine violence font toute la force de ce nouveau genre des nuits dansantes. Sur "Aqui Para Voces", on retrouve une MC incroyable, Deize Tigrona. Amis gaulois, le ciel va nous tomber sur la tête.

I spok to you some months ago of Kuduro, about this tribal electronic music coming from Angola, former Portuguese colony. It is exactly in Portugal where Kuduro found its leader with the band Buraka Som Sistema. Pour les fans de Digitalism en manque, je vous présente un allemand, Cajuan, qui semble être un proche du duo d'Hambourg. Cela semble presque une évidence à l'écoute du titre "Raven". Ce morceau est un must have avec ce beat et ces bips "digitalismien", une basse surpuissante et cette mignonne mélodie d'orgue qui casse le tempo pour mieux le relancer. Rewind !

For all fans of missing Digitalism, Let me present a German producer, Cajuan, who seems to be a friend à the duet from Hambourg. It appears almost an evidence when you listen to the song "Raven". This track is a must-have with these beat and beeps typically Digitalism, a high-powered bassline and this gorgeous organ melody which breaks the tempo to boost it just after. Rewind!

Je suis de ceux qui en 1996 étaient tombés amoureux de l'album "Londinium" du groupe anglais Archive. Autour de Darius Keeler et Danny Griffiths, le groupe a beaucoup évolué ainsi que dans les styles passant du trip-hop au rock et même l'électro. Ils font leur retour avec un album "Controlling Crowd" qui reste à découvrir mais avec la vidéo pour le premier extrait "Bullet", il y a de quoi être alléché. Je vous laisse découvrir.

I am one of those who in 1996 felt in love with the album "Londinium" of the English band, Archive. Around Darius Keeler and Danny Griffiths, the band evolved a lot (some leaving others coming) as well as in the styles crossing of the trip-hop to rock and even electro music. They come back soon with a new album "Controlling Crowd" which is still to discover but with this music video for the first single "Bullet", there are some reasons to be impatient. C'est décidé, ce sera la chanson du printemps qui pointe son nez. Le new yorkais Denvil que je ne connaissais pas auparavant, m'a enchanté dès la première écoute de "Let Go". Son chant tout en douceur me rappelle Ben Westbeech, la production mi house, mi nu-jazz se rapproche des meilleurs titres de Kerry Chandler. C'est définitivement mon coup de coeur du moment.

It is decided, it will be the song of spring season which gonna start. The new yorker Denvil whom I did not know previously, enchanted me from the first listening of "Let Go". His quite gently singing style reminds me to Ben Westbeech, the half-house, half-nu-jazz production gets closer to the Kerry Chandler's best tunes. It is definitively my nowadays favorite song.

Et de 2. Encore un nouveau morceau des 2 compères, Simian Mobile Disco. Cette fois-ci un titre d'électro instrumental encore hypnotique. Adossé à une vidéo vraiment réussie, ça prend aux tripes. Vivement l'album !

J'avais découvert le groupe hip-hop de Chicago, Hollywood Holt il y a quelques semaines sans avoir été vraiment emballé même si les quelques touches électro dans les productions passaient bien. Finalement changement d'avis grâce au remix des bostoniens Fantastadon, producteurs de breakbeat house. Le morceau "Hollywood" se voit offrir un groove électronique et des basses rondes qui rappeleront certains remixes du regretté anglais Phones (allez écouter dans la même veine mes mixes "French Accent" pour les découvrir ou redécouvrir).

I found few weeks ago a hip-hop band from Chicago, Hollywood Hold, but did not find it so good even if the electronic touch in the productions were interesting. Finally I change my point of view thanks to a remix of Fanstatadon, breakbeat house producers from Boston. The track "Hollywod" gets an electronic groove and slappy basslines which remind the remixes of English regretted Phones (Listen to my old mixes "French Accent" in the same vein).

Petit détour par la techno avec un très très bon maxi édité chez le label Bondage Music (ça ne s'invente pas !). Transistor produisent depuis 2004 une techno minimale ultra funky qui fait bien souvent mouche. Et ce nouvel opus fait perdurer la tradition avec notamment "Zonderstaff", un morceau hypnotique à la montée progressive et soutenue.

Small bend by techno music with one very very good EP edited by the label Bondage Music (what a name!). The band, Transistor, has been producing for 5 years a minimal funky techno which works perfectly on the dancefloor. And this new opus makes the tradition continue with in particular "Zonderstaff", a uprising and hypnotising track.

Malgré quelques sorties intéressantes mais sans plus, je trouve que cela faisait un certain temps qu'un album de hip-hop ne m'avait pas marqué. Il m'aura fallu découvrir le troisième album, "Never Better", des américains P.O.S que je connaissais pas auparavant. Un hip-hop pur tout au long de ce long format aux accents de Madvillain avec un zeste d'Anticon. Le titre "Savion Glover" est d'une construction classique, ultra dépouillé : un pur sample de break, quelques scratchs et le tour est joué.

In spite of some interesting releases but nothing exceptionnal, I find it was a long time to get a great hip-hop album. I needed to discover the third album, "Never Better", of American P.O.S whom I never knew not. A pure hip-hop throughout this LP with accents of Madvillain and a zest of Anticon. The track "Savion Glover" is of a classic construction: a pure breaks sample, some scratchs and it's done!

C'est le grand retour de Depeche Mode. A l'inverse de U2, le groupe parvient à rester au top. Le talent à créer des mélodies, la production sombre et la voix magique de Dave Gahan sont encore au rendez-vous sur leur album à venir dont est issu le premier single "Wrong". Un morceau totalement représentatif de Martin Gore et ses deux compères adossé à un clip exceptionnel. L'idée d'un rembobinage ponctué de tas de détails subtiles, une réalisation captivante magnifient le morceau.

It's a big come-back of Depeche Mode. At the opposite of U2, the band succeeds in staying at the top. The talent to create great melodies, the dark production and the Dave Gahan' magic voice are still present on their next album out from which comes the first single "Wrong". A totally representative tune of Martin Gore and his two accomplices leaned in an exceptional clip. The idea of a rewinding punctuated with many subtle details, a fascinating realization glorify the song.

Celui que j'avais découvert en producteur à travers le Klub des Loosers, à savoir Orgasmic, a évolué à une vitesse impressionnante. Partir d'un hip-hop sombre vers de l'électro booty, c'est une sacrée évolution. Il faut préciser qu'il est derrière les manettes de morceaux de TTC et c'est avec le ventripotent Tekilatex (Tekitek cette fois-ci) qu'il sort "The Sixpack Anthem", un morceau qui ravira les fans du son de Baltimore, des Spank Rock et consorts. Son propre remix avec un featuring de E Mackey est terriblement efficace.

The guy I discovered as the producer of Le Klub des Loosers (French Hip-Hop MC), namely Orgasmic, evolved in an impressive speed. Coming from a dark hip-hop, he now produces booty electro, what an evolution. It is necessary to precise he is one of the producers of French hip-hop electro band, TTC, and it is with the potbellied Tekilatex (Tekitek, this time) that he's releasing "The Sixpack Anthem", a track which will delight the fans of Baltimore sounds, Spank Rock, etc. His own remix with a featuring of MC E Mackey, is terribly effective.

Si Michael Jackson n'avait pas fait blanchir son cerveau, il lui resterait les neurones nécessaires pour se décider à travailler avec de bons producteurs car lorsque l'on découvre ce que T&T, Tim et Tim, soit Goldsworthy de DFA Records et Sweeney de Beats In Space, ont réalisé comme edit acid disco du titre "Don't Stop", il y a de quoi avoir des regrets. Sortons les mouchoirs, King of Pop is not dead, he is a zombie !

If Michael Jackson had not made clear his brain as his skin, he would have enough neurones to decide to work with good producers because when we discover that T&T, Tim and Tim (Goldsworthy of DFA Records and Sweeney of Beats In Space), make an incredible acid-disco edit of "Don't Stop", we can have regrets. Un MC anglais qui devient producteur d'electro-house, ce n'est pas commun et pourtant Roska issu de la scène UK garage l'a fait. Et c'est ce que ça marche plutôt bien pour lui. Son dernier titre "In Your Handbag" sur lequel il rappe (pas besoin de featuring avec lui !), est entêtant, entraînant. Un morceau à placer en soirée et l'ambiance montera d'un cran.

An English MC who becomes electro-house producer, it is not common and nevertheless Roska coming from the UK garage scene did it. And it works well for him. His last track "In Your Handbag" on which he puts his voice (not need of featuring with him!), is intoxicating, entailing. A tune to play at night party and the atmosphere will rise up.

A travers le remix des italiens Crookers, Kid Cudi avait eu un buzz pour son titre "Day 'N' Nite". Un hip-hop hybride mélangeant électro et soul qui revient à la charge grâce à un tout nouveau clip signé So Me, graphiste de l'écurie Ed Banger. Je suis fan de son univers avec sa touche cartoon. Léger, gai mais pas niais !

Through the remix of Italians Crookers, Kid Cudi had last year a big buzz for his track "Day 'N' Nite". An hybrid hip-hop mixing electro and soul which is at the top today because of a new music video performed by So Me, graphist of Ed Banger crew. I am a fan of his univers with his cartoon touch. Lightful, happy but not simpleton!

Je ne connaissais pas jusqu'à présent Dr Kucho, producteur espagnol house, alors qu'il officie depuis 1993. Pour le découvrir, on ne peut rêver mieux que ce "Groover's Delight", l'union parfaite entre ce classique funky et hip-hop et la musique de club d'aujourd'hui. Très efficace.

J'ai déjà écrit beaucoup sur le label américain Italians Do It Better dont je suis un fervent amateur avec toutes ses sorties de cosmic et nu disco, pop électronique et néo-wave. Mais je ne peux m'empêcher de continuer avec leur nouvelle signature Bottin, un producteur et ingénieur du son italien qui m'a bluffé avec son morceau "No Static", mélange délicat et gracieux entre Prince, Giorgio Moroder et Daft Punk époque "Discovery". A avoir absolument !

I have already written about the American label Italians Do It Better I like so much with all its releases of nu and cosmic disco, electro-pop and neo-wave. But I cannot refrain from continuing with its new signature, Bottin, an Italian producer and sound engineer who fooled me with his track "No Static", delicate and graceful mixture between Prince, Giorgio Moroder and Daft Punk (period "Discovery"). A must have !

C'est certainement le gros buzz de la semaine, toute la blogosphère est en émoi publiant les uns après les autres le clip d'un nouveau titre de Simian Mobile Disco, "Synthetise". Un nouvel album est attendu cette année et si ce morceau en fait partie, on peut être confiant pour cette sortie très attendue. J'ai passé ma nuit à l'écouter en boucle, totalement obsédant. En plus, la vidéo est excellente.

C'est sur son label Harmonie Park fondé en 93 qu'il sort ses productions toujours groovy car son approche de la musique se résume dans cette phrase "The groove is what gives substance and soul to a track". C'est clair, net et précis. Un simili best-of vient de sortir "Harmonie Park Revisited", un collector édité à quelques centaines d'exemplaires (moins un, pour moi !). J'ai sélectionné pour vous le morceau "Fade Away", un classique avec ses violons syncopés, sa guitare funky et son refrain chantant.

Soulab, petit label français, a de l'ambition et bien lui en prend. D'autant que l'objectif est élevé : marquer de son emprunte la musique black. Les signatures de ce label sont un patchwork intéressant de styles musicaux typiquement black avec le funk de Uptown Funk Empire, le jazz de Transition Cosmic Power, la soul de Allen Hoist ou encore la house de Dan Electro. Quand deux de mes producteurs préférés et qui plus est amis se retrouvent associés pour un remix, il est légitime d'espérer un gros gros titre. Eh bien les viennois ne m'ont pas déçu, le remix de Peter Kruder pour Stereotyp, "Take The Weight" issu de son dernier album ultra recommandé, est la quintessence de leurs talents respectifs, une touche afro-rythmique (Stereotyp), un penchant deep house (Kruder) et une influence dub avec profusion de reverb (les 2). Un seul qualificatif : excellent.

When two of my favorite producers are associated for a remix and what's more two friends, it is justifiable to hope for the big track. Well the Vienneses guys did not disappoint me, Peter Kruder's remix for Stereotyp's tune, "Take The Weight" released on his last album (highly recommended), is the quintessence of their respective talents, an afro-rhythmic touch (Stereotyp), a deep house style (Kruder) and a dub influence with reverb profusion (both). Just one word: excellent.

Ce titre "The Ground" est un incontournable des soundsystems brésiliens. A mi-chemin entre le son de Baltimore, le dancehall jamaicain et la caipirinha !

Le pendant anglais au label français Ed Banger est certainement Cheap Thrills, label de Hervé. De la fidget house mais pas que, de la musique qui fait lever les bras et désarticule les jambes avec des basses saturées, tous les ingrédients pour une bonne soirée. La dernière sortie du label nous vient de Project Bassline, certainement un nouveau pseudo de Hervé et au nom explicite. "Drop The Pressure (The Count's aka The Count of Monte Cristal Conquistador Remix)", un auto-remix (!), a reprend tous les ingrédients du dessus avec un soupçon aux consonances brésiliennes. Malgré le titre, ce track ne laisse tomber la pression.

The English counterpart of the French label, Ed Banger, is certainly Cheap Thrills, Hervé's label. Fidget house but not only that, music which makes raise your arms and dislocates your legs with saturated basslines, all ingredients for a good party. The last release of the label comes from Project Bassline, certainly Hervé's new nickname really explicit. "Drop The Pressure (The Count's aka The Count of Monte Cristal Conquistador Remix)", an auto-remix (!), has resumes all the ingredients of the top with a zest of Brazilian consonances. In spite of the title, this track doesn't drop the pressure.

Un petit cadeau rapide pour un coup de coeur garanti. Youth (totalement inconnu selon moi) a mis en ligne un sublime mix de synth-pop et de cosmic disco récent et passé. Kitsch pour certains, planant pour d'autres. A vous de découvrir dans quelle catégorie vous vous trouverez !

Je précise que je n'ai pas fait d'erreur de frappe. Nous parlons bien des New Kids On The Glock (et non On The Block), 2 compères, Joe Beuckman et Mike Davis qui s'amusent à reprendre des titres armés de leurs xylophones. Cette fois-ci, c'est le "D.A.N.C.E." des Justice qui se retrouve en version comptine enfantine et c'est un vent de fraîcheur qui s'abat sur ce morceau qui avait fini par casser les oreilles de pas mal d'entre nous.

We indeed speak about New Kids On The Glock (and not On The Block), 2 accomplices, Joe Beuckman and Mike Davis who enjoy covering songs with their xylophones. Un peu de pop entêtante à mettre dans son player MP3 pour marcher les pieds dans la neige, les mains frigorifiés, le nez rouge congelé, le sourire glacé, en penchant sa tête de gauche à droite alternativement et en repensant au clip "Rat Race" de Munk. Rétro-futuriste (Image des années 70 !) et joyeusement comique, à l'image du morceau !

A little of intoxicating pop to put in your mp3 player to walk with your feet in the snow, your hands are cooled, your nose is frozen, your smile is ice-cold, you are tilting your head from left to right alternately while thinking again about the music video, "Rat Race" of Munk. J'avais déjà parlé de TC, un DJ producteur de drum'n'bass qui promettait. Il est de retour avec sa compilation "Watch The Ride". Il succède ainsi aux Goldie, DJ Zinc, Skream, High Contrast ou encore Scratch Perverts qui avaient déjà officié pour cette excellente série dédiée aux musiques aux beats rapides et déstructurés. Au programme ses propres productions, du Roni Size, du DJ Marky, du Ben Westbeech, du Clipz, etc. La tracklist est parfaite et redonnera envie à tous ceux qui avaient abandonné la drum'n'bass d'en réécouter.

I had already written about TC, a producer & DJ of drum'n'bass. He is back with his own compilation "Watch The Ride". He so succeeds to Goldie, DJ Zinc, Skream, High Contrast or still Scratch Perverts who had already officiated for this excellent compilation series dedicated to musics fill of fast and disintegrated beat. Some of his own productions, some Roni Size's, some DJ Marky's, some Ben Westbeech's, some Clipz's... The tracklist is perfect and will restore the envy of all those who abandoned drum'n'bass, to listen again to it.

Je tenais à parler d'une compilation à détenir impérativement, "Munich Discotech Volume 3", réalisé par un belge au bon goût, Ramon Tapia. De la house harmonieuse, classe, du miel pour les oreilles ! Ma sélection s'oriente vers le titre "No Government" car le morceau est bon mais aussi parce que c'est la voix de Nicolette que tout le monde a entendu sur certains titres de Massive Attack ("Sly" par exemple) et parce que le remix est réalisé par mes artistes autrichiens préférés Makossa & Megablast. Ca ne pouvait être qu'excellent...

I wanted to speak about a compilation to hold necessarily, "Munich Discotech Volume 3", realized by a Belgian with a good taste, Ramon Tapia. Harmonious and class house music, some honey for our ears! My selection turns to the song "No Government" because the track is well good but also because you will hear the voice of Nicolette everybody knows because she song on few tunes of Massive Attack ("Sly" for example) and because the remix is made by my favourite Austrian producers Makossa & Megablast. It could only be excellent...

L'union fait la force, c'est bien connu. Prenez un des meilleurs producteurs de funky House, DJ Spen, vous y ajoutez le violoniste Chieko Kinbara et deux chanteuses de gospel Sharam Adams et Lisa Mack et vous obtenez "Changed My Life". Bref le dicton se confirme. Tant mieux !

Mon petit doigt me dit que l'anglais Jon Rundell sera l'un des grands producteurs techno de cette année 2009. 2008 en guise tour de chauffe, il démarre l'année avec un maxi monstrueux, "Dawn Raid", basé sur une montée de percussions sensationnelle. Inlassable !

I do believe that English man, Jon Rundell, will be one of the biggest techno producer of 2009. 2008 as a training, he begins this new year with a monstruous EP, "Danw Raind", based on a sensational rise of percussions. Unbored!

Avec une telle pochette sur fond orange, sa chemise seventies et son nom Uptown Funk Empire, on croirait une réédition d'un obscure chanteur funk américain des années 70. Finalement c'est un français basé à Lyon, le prolifique Bruno aka Patchworks. Sa musique transpire le groove comme peu savent le faire en France et quand il tend vers la house comme "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now", alors là c'est un pur bonheur. En attendans son album à venir "The Empire Strikes Back".

With such a artwork with orange on bottom, his seventies shirt and his name, Uptown Funk Empire, we would believe a reedition of unknown American funk singer of the 70's. Finally it is a French producer based in Lyon, the prolific Bruno aka Patchworks. His music smells so groovy as few know how to make it in France and when he aims towards house music as on "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now", it is a pure pleasure. Just wait now for his album soon out, "The Empire Strikes Back".

Je n'imaginais pas bêtement trouvé un texan faire de l'électro et pourtant je me suis trompé car je viens trouver un certain Wolfgang Gartner qui a passé sa jeunesse à jouer avec des machines et un ordinateur pour faire de la musique quand les autres jouent à la playstation. Cette notion du jeu se ressent dans ses productions toutes très puissantes. Du fun du fun du fun et "Flashback" le démontre.

I did not imagine silly found Texan people make electro music and nevertheless I made a mistake because I just found Wolfgang Gartner who spent his youth to play with machines and computer to record music when the others teens play with theirs playstation and nintendo. You can feel this notion of game and play in his productions which are heavy and groovy. Fun, fun, fun and "Flashback" demonstrates it.
