C'est le grand retour de Depeche Mode. A l'inverse de U2, le groupe parvient à rester au top. Le talent à créer des mélodies, la production sombre et la voix magique de Dave Gahan sont encore au rendez-vous sur leur album à venir dont est issu le premier single "Wrong". Un morceau totalement représentatif de Martin Gore et ses deux compères adossé à un clip exceptionnel. L'idée d'un rembobinage ponctué de tas de détails subtiles, une réalisation captivante magnifient le morceau.

It's a big come-back of Depeche Mode. At the opposite of U2, the band succeeds in staying at the top. The talent to create great melodies, the dark production and the Dave Gahan' magic voice are still present on their next album out from which comes the first single "Wrong". Celui que j'avais découvert en producteur à travers le Klub des Loosers, à savoir Orgasmic, a évolué à une vitesse impressionnante. Partir d'un hip-hop sombre vers de l'électro booty, c'est une sacrée évolution. Il faut préciser qu'il est derrière les manettes de morceaux de TTC et c'est avec le ventripotent Tekilatex (Tekitek cette fois-ci) qu'il sort "The Sixpack Anthem", un morceau qui ravira les fans du son de Baltimore, des Spank Rock et consorts. Son propre remix avec un featuring de E Mackey est terriblement efficace.

The guy I discovered as the producer of Le Klub des Loosers (French Hip-Hop MC), namely Orgasmic, evolved in an impressive speed. Coming from a dark hip-hop, he now produces booty electro, what an evolution. It is necessary to precise he is one of the producers of French hip-hop electro band, TTC, and it is with the potbellied Tekilatex (Tekitek, this time) that he's releasing "The Sixpack Anthem", a track which will delight the fans of Baltimore sounds, Spank Rock, etc. His own remix with a featuring of MC E Mackey, is terribly effective.

Si Michael Jackson n'avait pas fait blanchir son cerveau, il lui resterait les neurones nécessaires pour se décider à travailler avec de bons producteurs car lorsque l'on découvre ce que T&T, Tim et Tim, soit Goldsworthy de DFA Records et Sweeney de Beats In Space, ont réalisé comme edit acid disco du titre "Don't Stop", il y a de quoi avoir des regrets. Sortons les mouchoirs, King of Pop is not dead, he is a zombie !

Un MC anglais qui devient producteur d'electro-house, ce n'est pas commun et pourtant Roska issu de la scène UK garage l'a fait. Et c'est ce que ça marche plutôt bien pour lui. Son dernier titre "In Your Handbag" sur lequel il rappe (pas besoin de featuring avec lui !), est entêtant, entraînant. Un morceau à placer en soirée et l'ambiance montera d'un cran.

An English MC who becomes electro-house producer, it is not common and nevertheless Roska coming from the UK garage scene did it. And it works well for him. His last track "In Your Handbag" on which he puts his voice (not need of featuring with him!), is intoxicating, entailing. A tune to play at night party and the atmosphere will rise up.

A travers le remix des italiens Crookers, Kid Cudi avait eu un buzz pour son titre "Day 'N' Nite". Un hip-hop hybride mélangeant électro et soul qui revient à la charge grâce à un tout nouveau clip signé So Me, graphiste de l'écurie Ed Banger. Je suis fan de son univers avec sa touche cartoon. Léger, gai mais pas niais !

Through the remix of Italians Crookers, Kid Cudi had last year a big buzz for his track "Day 'N' Nite". An hybrid hip-hop mixing electro and soul which is at the top today because of a new music video performed by So Me, graphist of Ed Banger crew. I am a fan of his univers with his cartoon touch. Je ne connaissais pas jusqu'à présent Dr Kucho, producteur espagnol house, alors qu'il officie depuis 1993. Pour le découvrir, on ne peut rêver mieux que ce "Groover's Delight", l'union parfaite entre ce classique funky et hip-hop et la musique de club d'aujourd'hui. Très efficace.

J'ai déjà écrit beaucoup sur le label américain Italians Do It Better dont je suis un fervent amateur avec toutes ses sorties de cosmic et nu disco, pop électronique et néo-wave. Mais je ne peux m'empêcher de continuer avec leur nouvelle signature Bottin, un producteur et ingénieur du son italien qui m'a bluffé avec son morceau "No Static", mélange délicat et gracieux entre Prince, Giorgio Moroder et Daft Punk époque "Discovery". A avoir absolument !

I have already written about the American label Italians Do It Better I like so much with all its releases of nu and cosmic disco, electro-pop and neo-wave. En plus, la vidéo est excellente.

Rick Wade qui a commencé dans les années 80 au Nectarine Ballroom, salle dans laquelle Jeff Mills a débuté, est un figure de la deep house. C'est sur son label Harmonie Park fondé en 93 qu'il sort ses productions toujours groovy car son approche de la musique se résume dans cette phrase "The groove is what gives substance and soul to a track". C'est clair, net et précis. Un simili best-of vient de sortir "Harmonie Park Revisited", un collector édité à quelques centaines d'exemplaires (moins un, pour moi !). J'ai sélectionné pour vous le morceau "Fade Away", un classique avec ses violons syncopés, sa guitare funky et son refrain chantant.

Quand deux de mes producteurs préférés et qui plus est amis se retrouvent associés pour un remix, il est légitime d'espérer un gros gros titre. Eh bien les viennois ne m'ont pas déçu, le remix de Peter Kruder pour Stereotyp, "Take The Weight" issu de son dernier album ultra recommandé, est la quintessence de leurs talents respectifs, une touche afro-rythmique (Stereotyp), un penchant deep house (Kruder) et une influence dub avec profusion de reverb (les 2). Un seul qualificatif : excellent.

When two of my favorite producers are associated for a remix and what's more two friends, it is justifiable to hope for the big track. Well the Vienneses guys did not disappoint me, Peter Kruder's remix for Stereotyp's tune, "Take The Weight" released on his last album (highly recommended), is the quintessence of their respective talents, an afro-rhythmic touch (Stereotyp), a deep house style (Kruder) and a dub influence with reverb profusion (both). Just one word: excellent.

Le pendant anglais au label français Ed Banger est certainement Cheap Thrills, label de Hervé. De la fidget house mais pas que, de la musique qui fait lever les bras et désarticule les jambes avec des basses saturées, tous les ingrédients pour une bonne soirée. La dernière sortie du label nous vient de Project Bassline, certainement un nouveau pseudo de Hervé et au nom explicite. "Drop The Pressure (The Count's aka The Count of Monte Cristal Conquistador Remix)", un auto-remix (!), a reprend tous les ingrédients du dessus avec un soupçon aux consonances brésiliennes. Malgré le titre, ce track ne laisse tomber la pression.

The English counterpart of the French label, Ed Banger, is certainly Cheap Thrills, Hervé's label. Fidget house but not only that, music which makes raise your arms and dislocates your legs with saturated basslines, all ingredients for a good party. The last release of the label comes from Project Bassline, certainly Hervé's new nickname really explicit. "Drop The Pressure (The Count's aka The Count of Monte Cristal Conquistador Remix)", an auto-remix (!), has resumes all the ingredients of the top with a zest of Brazilian consonances. In spite of the title, this track doesn't drop the pressure.

Je précise que je n'ai pas fait d'erreur de frappe. Nous parlons bien des New Kids On The Glock (et non On The Block), 2 compères, Joe Beuckman et Mike Davis qui s'amusent à reprendre des titres armés de leurs xylophones. Cette fois-ci, c'est le "D.A.N.C.E." des Justice qui se retrouve en version comptine enfantine et c'est un vent de fraîcheur qui s'abat sur ce morceau qui avait fini par casser les oreilles de pas mal d'entre nous.

Un peu de pop entêtante à mettre dans son player MP3 pour marcher les pieds dans la neige, les mains frigorifiés, le nez rouge congelé, le sourire glacé, en penchant sa tête de gauche à droite alternativement et en repensant au clip "Rat Race" de Munk. Rétro-futuriste (Image des années 70 !) et joyeusement comique, à l'image du morceau !

J'avais déjà parlé de TC, un DJ producteur de drum'n'bass qui promettait. Il est de retour avec sa compilation "Watch The Ride". Il succède ainsi aux Goldie, DJ Zinc, Skream, High Contrast ou encore Scratch Perverts qui avaient déjà officié pour cette excellente série dédiée aux musiques aux beats rapides et déstructurés. Au programme ses propres productions, du Roni Size, du DJ Marky, du Ben Westbeech, du Clipz, etc. La tracklist est parfaite et redonnera envie à tous ceux qui avaient abandonné la drum'n'bass d'en réécouter.

Je tenais à parler d'une compilation à détenir impérativement, "Munich Discotech Volume 3", réalisé par un belge au bon goût, Ramon Tapia. De la house harmonieuse, classe, du miel pour les oreilles ! Mon petit doigt me dit que l'anglais Jon Rundell sera l'un des grands producteurs techno de cette année 2009. 2008 en guise tour de chauffe, il démarre l'année avec un maxi monstrueux, "Dawn Raid", basé sur une montée de percussions sensationnelle. Inlassable !

I do believe that English man, Jon Rundell, will be one of the biggest techno producer of 2009. 2008 as a training, he begins this new year with a monstruous EP, "Danw Raind", based on a sensational rise of percussions. Unbored!

Avec une telle pochette sur fond orange, sa chemise seventies et son nom Uptown Funk Empire, on croirait une réédition d'un obscure chanteur funk américain des années 70. Finalement c'est un français basé à Lyon, le prolifique Bruno aka Patchworks. Sa musique transpire le groove comme peu savent le faire en France et quand il tend vers la house comme "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now", alors là c'est un pur bonheur. En attendans son album à venir "The Empire Strikes Back".

With such a artwork with orange on bottom, his seventies shirt and his name, Uptown Funk Empire, we would believe a reedition of unknown American funk singer of the 70's. Finally it is a French producer based in Lyon, the prolific Bruno aka Patchworks. His music smells so groovy as few know how to make it in France and when he aims towards house music as on "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now", it is a pure pleasure. Just wait now for his album soon out, "The Empire Strikes Back".

Je n'imaginais pas bêtement trouvé un texan faire de l'électro et pourtant je me suis trompé car je viens trouver un certain Wolfgang Gartner qui a passé sa jeunesse à jouer avec des machines et un ordinateur pour faire de la musique quand les autres jouent à la playstation. Cette notion du jeu se ressent dans ses productions toutes très puissantes. Du fun du fun du fun et "Flashback" le démontre.

I did not imagine silly found Texan people make electro music and nevertheless I made a mistake because I just found Wolfgang Gartner who spent his youth to play with machines and computer to record music when the others teens play with theirs playstation and nintendo. You can feel this notion of game and play in his productions which are heavy and groovy. Fun, fun, fun and "Flashback" demonstrates it.

Two Fingers, 2 doigts qui sont en fait 4 mains, celles du dieu brésilien Amon Tobin et Joe Doubleclick Chapman, tel est le nom du projet de ces deux têtes chercheuses de l'electronica.Appliquer des techniques de productions des styles musicaux typiquement UK, comme la drum & bass, aux modèles du hip-hop. Bref mettre de l'intelligence là où le hip-hop pêche comme pour les paroles d'ailleurs. D'où l'invitation entre autre du MC Londonien, gagnant du MOBO (Music of Black Origins) qui manie les mots avec drôlerie, sens et engagement. Le premier maxi "What You Know" est torturé mais pas une torture, sonne tel un Blade Runner anglais sur fond de paroles efficaces traitant de la discrimination et des perceptions stéréotypées.

C'est aujourd'hui qu'Obama prend ses fonctions de président. Entre espoirs légitimes et utopiques, changements profonds et désenchantement probable à venir, Obama dispose d'une aura incroyable qui inspire les producteurs de musique et DJs en tout genre (je m'y inclus). Le dernier exemple de la célébration de son élection est issu des Daft Punk et Adam Freeland. Efficace mais j'avoue que je finis par me lasser de cette partisanerie à outrance. Qu'importe !

It is the D-day for Obama who takes his functions of President. Between justifiable and utopian hopes, deep changes and disillusionment likely to come, Obama has an incredible aura which inspires music producers and DJs of all styles (including me). The last example of the celebration of his election comes from Daft Punk and Adam Freeland. Great track even if I admit I become fed o f of this excessive partisan spirit. No matter!

C'est mon coup de coeur de ce début d'année, l'album d'Altered Natives, alias Danny Native, producteur compositeur anglais de broken beat aussi talentueux que barré. Et les deux aspects se ressentent sur son album "A Thousand Days Of Patience" (durée de gestation de son album ?). Ses breaks sont étonnants, déroutants et accrocheurs, les mélodies et les sonorités si variées qu'il y en a pour tous les goûts. J'espère qu'Altered Natives recevra les lauriers auquel il peut prétendre. Il suffit pour s'en convaincre d'écouter "No Love 4 You" avec Aisling Stephenson au micro et de se laisser transporter.

It is my favorite discovery of this beginning of 2009, the album of Altered Natives, aka Danny Native, English producer and composer of broken beat as talented as crazy. And you can feel both aspects on his album "To Thousand Days Of Patience" (needed record time of his album?). His breaks are surprising, puzzling and catch your body, melodies and sounds so varied as all tastes of ears will get satisfied. I hope Altered Natives will receive the honors to which he can aspire. It is enough for be convinced, to listen to "No Love 4 You" with Aisling Stephenson at the microphone and to be allowed transport.

C'est à partir d'un mix Kitsune que j'avais découvert il y a quelques années Toxic Avenger qui venait de signer sur le label américain Iheartcomix grâce à qui j'ai découvert le duo américain Heartsrevolution que j'adore (cf. mon mix "Musically Yours (Modern Pop)"). La boucle est faite puisque le groupe vient de signer chez Kitsune un EP "Ultraviolence". Les mélodies à base de synthétiseurs rappellent le décrié "Courtship Dating" des Crystal Castles. Les remixes de Vitalic et Chateau Marmont sont excellents et la version plus hip-hop de Spank Rock est des plus recommandées.

It is thanks to a mix of Kitsune I heard for the first time some years ago Toxic Avenger who had just signed on the American label Iheartcomix thanks to whom I discovered the American duet Heartsrevolutio I like a lot (check my mix "Musically Yours (Modern Pop)"). The buckle is made because the band has just signed on Kitsune an EP "Ultraviolence". Melodies based on keyboards reminds the controversy "Courtship Dating" of the Canadian Crystal Castles. The remixes of Vitalic and Chateau Marmont are excellent and the more hip-hop version of Spank Rock is highly recommended.

Je reconnais que je suis drogué au cosmic disco mais on ne se refait pas. Un nouveau morceau pour décoller dans l'espace, "Garoto" de Cusmos avec le fredonnement délicieux et sensuel de Joyce Muniz et surtout remixé par la paire autrichienne Dorfmeister et Moestl. Deep vibes comme on dit anglais !

Je ne pourrai me limiter à vous présenter "Just Ain't Gonna Work Out" comme une perle soul bien old school qui fait figure de classique. Car derrière Mayer Hawthorne & The County se cache Haircut of NowOn (de Stones Throw) qui parvient à nous faire croire que ce morceau est une réédition alors qu'il s'agit d'une véritable création. L'illusion marche parfaitement et vous remarquerez qu'en ce moment l'artwork vinyl est à l'honneur chez les labels qui présentent de plus en plus de belles pièces comme ici avec ce format coeur.

I can't limit to present you "Just Ain't Gonna Work Out" as a pearl of old school soul music which sounds like a classic. Because behind Mayer Hawthorne and The County hides Haircut of NowOn (from US label Stones Throw) who succeeds in persuading us that this song is a reedition of a old track while it is about a real nowadays creation. The illusion works perfectly and you will notice that at the moment the artwork is well developped in many labels which present more and more beautiful pieces (form, pics...) as here with this heart format.

Je ne suis pas un immense fan de l'allemand Marc Romboy mais son dernier maxi m'a épaté. Le titre "Sonorama" m'a fait frissonner dès la première écoute : ses grésillements, sa basse sinusoidale et son ambiance noire en font un morceau de choix pour faire chavirer une meute de danseurs exigeants et demandeurs de bons sons.

I am not a huge fan of German producer Marc Romboy but his last EP amazed me. The track "Sonorama" made me shiver from the first listening: its cracklings, its sinusoidal bassline and its dark atmosphere make of this song, an excellent choice to make capsize a pack of hard to satisfy dancers and all applicants of good sounds.

A voir absolument sur scène, à écouter sans concession et avec grand plaisir, les Birdy Nam Nam sont les premiers à offrir à 2009, un album qui fera date. Toujours accompagnés de leurs platines vinyles mais enrichis de vrais instruments et de nouvelles machines et surtout entourés de Yuksek à la production et de Justice sur le morceau "The Parachute Ending", un début calme à coups de synthés (un clin d'oeil peut-être à Kavinsky), une virée et montée techno digne de Vitalic et bien sûr,la saturation de Justice. Ce morceau est un must, encore quelques jours avant de se précipiter sur l'album "Manual For Successful Rioting".

To see absolutely on stage, to listen without concession and with a huge pleasure, Birdy Nam Nam are the first to offer to 2009 a major album. Always accompanied with their turntables but enriched by real instruments and machines, and especially surrounded with Yuksek at the production and with Justice on one track "The Parachute Ending", a slow beginning full of keyboards (maybe a wink to Kavinsky), a techno stroll and an ascent reminding Vitalic and logically, the saturation of Justice. This track is a must, so now wait few days for the album "Manual For Successful Rioting".

Maintenant c'est une certitude, le son French Touch est de retour et E Crazy nous le prouve. Pour rattraper une soirée pourrie, dorénavant on passera "Nuit De Merde" (!). Ca me rappelle les productions du label Roulé qui a berçé mes nuits parisiennes fut une époque et je peux vous assurer que ce n'étaient pas des nuits de merde !

Now it's sure, the sound French Touch is coming back and E Crazy proves it. To save a bad party, we can play now "Nuit De Merde" (the translation is "Bullshit Night"). It reminds me productions of the label Roulé which were my soundtrack of my parisiand nightlife 10 years ago. And I can assure you it wasn't bullshit nights!

Prenez une inspiration Miss Kittin, mélangez la avec un soupçon d'electro-techno façon "Trans Boulogne Express" des Birdy Nam Nam, vous obtenez Dirty Princess et son morceau "Marine" qui figure sur le maxi éponyme où chaque titre vaut le coup d'être écouté. Et puis j'avoue que j'adore l'artwork du vinyl. Pas vous ?

Let's take an inspiration of Mpiss Kittin, you mix it with a little bit ot electro-techno as "Trans Boulogne Express" of French guys Birdy Nam Nam, and you get Dirty Princess and their new track "Marine" which is on an EP you must listen to or buy it. Ne vous méprenez pas avec ce billet car la dance music n'a jamais été ni ne sera à l'honneur sur ce blog. Alors que fait Benny Benassi ici me direz vous ? Tout simplement parce que le remix de "Come Fly Away" avec la chanteuse Channing est un petit bijou d'electro-pop uptempo. Ce n'est pas la première fois que je tombe dingue des productions du duo Adam K & Soha dont les synthétiseurs continuent à m'envoûter.

Don't be mistajen with this post because dance music was never and will never be present on this blog. So why speaking about Benny Benassi ? Simply because the remix of "Come Fly Away" featuring Channing is a pure bomb of uptempo electro-pop. It is not the first time I become crazy of productions of the duet Adam K & Soha whose keyboards continue to bewitch me.

Les fêtes sont passées, l'année 2009 vient de démarrer et je vous présente mes voeux. J'avais voulu conclure 2008 par un mix qui rende hommage à Paris. Tous les titres choisis comporte le nom de ma ville préférée (c'est pourquoi j'y vis), toutes les époques et tous les styles de musique y sont représentées. C'est ça Paris !

I wish you Happy New Year and do hope you will enjoy 2009. I wanted to conclude 2008 with a mix dedicated to Paris. All tracks names include the name of my favourite city (that's why I'm living here), all periods and all musical styles are represented. It's So Paris!
